Unable to switch to capture mode error in Windows Xp
I am running a P4 3.0ghz cpu with 1gb ram and a ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 series video card on Windows XP with SP2. I installed Video Studio 11 plus on my computer to try it out.. I click on the top tab "Capture" and then click on "Capture Video" and I get the message "Unable to switch to video capture check if your video capture driver is working properly (15023:4:2) " I have completely removed everthing to do with my video card(properly) and then reinstalled all the newest drivers from ATI. I still get that message.. I actually got that same message even when I tried using my video studio 9 also. How can I fix this problem? I am able to capture video with other programs but I prefer to use Video Studio like I have always been able to.. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? It identifies my source as "ATI T200 AVstream Analog Capture" kind of weird cause I like to capture in good quality "DVD" as I produce video's from fire scenes for part of my job.. I have never had this kind of problem and been using this computer and video card for at least 2 years.

I am capturing the video through my composite that runs into my ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Series video card. I use 4 different cameras. I use a sony 8mm analog video camera, a sony 8mm digital video camera, a sony mini-dv video camera and a panasonic mini-dv video camera.. I have been testing this using the Rca inputs into the composite and also tried using the S-Video input into the composite to capture.. I am getting the error message above with no video ever showing up.. so really the problem is more to do with some kind of driver problem with ulead video studio. I am able to capture video with the same card the same way using Pinnacle Studio 9 and Arcsoft Showbiz DVD which are the other two programs I have tested just to see if my Video capture card was working at all. I really am a fan of Ulead Video Studio and would prefer to use it cause I've never had a problem with anything until now.

This is totally not my area of knowledge so all I can do is rehash what the usual answers are to this problem.
There are very loose and wide ranging protocols for capture cards and devices. It is almost impossible for any manufacturer to create a generic set of parameters to cover them all. The usual advice given here is to only use the software that came with the card or device for the purpose of capturing because in all likelyhood it has been tweaked specifically to match the device.
After capture you can then use VS for editing etc.
