Movie wizard still hangs
Hello!
I'm using the trial version of UVS 11 (recently downloaded). When using the movie wizard, capturing works ok, but when clicking next the program hangs?????
The same problem appears when I import a mpg-file from my harddrive to the wizard. Importing works ok but when clicking "next" the program hangs!
I have tried the program on two different computers with the same result!!
Project properties:
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
No error codes
Hopefully you have got the information you need to find a solution
Kind regards Rolf

Well not really... Those properties are rock standard mpeg-2 which many (most?) of us capture and use on a daily basis with Video Studio, and the program never hangs. The only things "different" you have mentioned so far, are really not so different -- that you have the trial version and are using one of the wizards. I have never in my life used either of the wizards, so cannot help there.
But I cannot help but wonder might mike your case different from most other users.
First we need to know what you have captured the video from and exactly how you have captured it. Was it from a camera, a capture card, a TV card, a VHS or other analogue source? What capture device was involved? How was it connected to your computer? What are you computer specifications and operation system?
Next. have you ever loaded any mega codec packs on your computer?

Although, like Ken, I have never used one of those Wizards, I just tried the Movie one, importing a sample mpg file. I had no problem when clicking on the "Next" button, but wonder if your troubles could be caused by some missing files, since the wizard will typically use some .mpa sound and some other files.
It could be that the Wizards are not fully supported in the trial version, though if they are, I am certain that someone will jump in and correct me! I would suggest that you try the regular Video Editor option of the program to see if that works. If you experience problems with that, it could point to a faulty install, which you might be able to correct by re-installing the trial, perhaps even from a fresh download. Bear in mind that the 30 day trial period will date from the original install date, however.
Incidentally, your post title makes me laugh every time I look on the forum!
P.S. Don't forget the basics! Make sure your hard drive is defragmented, and non-essential programs aren't running.

Can´t make the wizard work
Hello again!
About the configuration you can see my profile.
Capturing: from a dv-camera, USB2 connection.
I have tried importing a movie-file (mpg) from the hd. Same result
I have tried reinstalling: Same result
Perhaps the trial version, as 2dogs sais, does not support the wizard????
Thanks for trying to help guys!
Regards Rolf
PS. It is nice that we can have some fun in the Forum (referring to the post title and 2dogs).

AHA! That is exactly why we ask you read that first post and answer ALL the questions. If you are using a dv camera you should be capturing via Firewire, not USB2. That could, at least, be some of your problem.Capturing: from a dv-camera, USB2 connection.

Listen to BlackLab!
Capture from a mini DV camera should definitely be done via Firewire, and for best results, even using firewire, your video should be captured in DV format, not mpeg-2.
All DV cameras of which I am aware, however, never include a firewire cable, but always include a USB cable, which gives the owner the feeling that capture is done via USB. It is NOT. Unless your camera is a very expensie one which has a USB 2.0 connection, I suspect you will find that it has a USB 1.0 connection which is simply not fast enough to capture high quality video. Usually, the USB connection on mini DV cameras is used to transfer still photos taken with the camera. At most, it can be used to transfer low quality streaming video, usually in mpeg-1 format.
So give this very much preferred workflow first. Capture in DV format using firewire. The difference in quality is likely to amaze you. If your computer does not have a firewire card, then buy and install one. That is easy and the cards are cheap these days.
Could you also tell us the make and model of your camera please.

VideoStudio Editor
Hi Rolf,
thanks for the further information. The mpeg-2 files you referred to and gave properties for looked fine - with the right field order for footage captured from a MiniDV camcorder.
I think therefore that you should try using the VideoStudio Editor instead of the Movie Wizard.
You could open a new blank project, go straight to the Share>Create Disc step and insert your test video file/s, and see if you can then author a DVD - i.e. set up your menu and chapter points, background music and so on. If that works, it might confirm that the Trial doesn't fully support the Wizard, but if you experience similar errors, it might point to a faulty download. Since you state that you've experienced the same problems on two different pc's, it's unlikely to be caused by a faulty install of a good download.
Good luck!

Now that we know you are using firewire you need to follow the second pice of advice given by Ken and that is capture in DV not MPEG2.

What happens is this.
Your Mini DV camcorder records in DV.
When you connect the camcorder to the computer with a firewire cable you transfer an exact copy of the video from your camcorder to your computer.
If instead you decide to capture in MPEG2 then the computer is converting the DV to MPEG2 as you do so and this is in fact a very intensive process and your computer must try and keep up with the camcorder which is playing back in real time. In other words it must convert 1 hours worth of DV to MPEG2 in one hour.
When you transfer the video to your computer in DV then it is just like moving a file from one hard drive to another - there is no conversion taking place and so there is no strain on the computer.
Once you have the DV on your hard drive the softrware can then take its time to convert it to MPEG2 and most computers will take between 1.5 and 3 times the time to do the conversion. In other words a 1 hour DV will take from 90 minutes to 3 hours to convert.

Hello again.
Capturing with DV settings make no differens. The wizard refuses to work..
This one does not work either
I give up!!!
I will be looking for another program to test!
Anyway, thanks for trying to help me
Kind regards Rolf
PS. If my patience returns, I will perhaps try a new download!
