Anyone know where I can find more menu templates then the few that come with the program or the couple extra sports ones they have. Kina limited there I think?

You can do limited editing to them with Photoimpact. I'm pretty sure all the MF template will work as well, you only need to copy them to your VS folder.

You don't tell us which version your using John but in version 8 I have 29 menu templates - all of them offereing quite a bit of customisation including changing each one to have between two and twelve thumbnails - changing the frames around the thumbnails - and even putting your own pictures behind the thumbnails - are you sure you've investigated all the possibilities you already have. Remember that if you only have one or two chapters you can still customise the ones you have to select say 12 thumbnails but only the first two up in the very top left corner will be used - - so you can get even more customisation.

John & all readers, I just want to say from the start that I'm not advocating or saying you should do this or that I do or have done the following. Just a bit of free speech :idea:

For more free menu templates to use in VS you can download the trial versions of all the video editing and authoring programs (Moviefactory, Workshop, VS9, etc.). Each of these free trial programs contain menu templates. Some might be duplicated with each other or what you already have, but some might not.
Do not install the programs. Just open the template folders and look for the menu templates. They all will have the .UFO extension. Look at the names of the templates that you already have on your PC, rename the new templates from the trial programs (example: if you alreday have a menu, named corp, name the new one corp1 or whatever bests describes it) so your existing templates won't just be replaced. Next, just copy the new templates to the appropriate folder in your full version of VS.

Sounds like a great idea but the versions come in a exe format so I would have to install them in order to get the files unless someone wants to post them somewhere already ziped up for us :roll:

Come on John, just be creative 8)

I assume you are using XP as your OS. Just create a new restore point in XP. After creating this point make a new folder on your c drive, call it whatever you like. Now download the trial to this new folder. After the download launch the program (.exe) and install again to this folder. Do a Custom install and deselect all programs except the main prog like MF4. When you're done, open the folder and you have all the menus in the template folder. When you're done do an uninstall from control panel and after that use XP Restore to go back to the point you created before you started.

Nice and clean 8)

Ok I gave it a try but for some reason the frames will show but the new copied templates will not show up such as movie factory has a festivals ones, whe I copy over the folder it does not show as a option to pull down like corprote and so on, there must be more files to copy over?

Menu Templates???

Post by nobieone »

Just wondering... Im using v.8... I finished creating several short slide shows and utilized one of Uleads existing Menu Templates. I entered the customize section of the screen and wanted to move the menu header text
to the middle of the menu but I could not perform such action. In addition to that I could not move any of the submenu boxes.

Is there any way you can fully customize your menu or modify the layout presets, because below the Customize Menu title of the screen it states "Click anywhere on the menu to change the menu or text style:" Is there something that I am just overlooking. Help....

Thank you...

Try the following steps. I hope this helps.

1) Clean up temp files from\Start menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Cleanup.
2) Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from control panel Add/Remove programs
3) Delete following folders
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
=>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\

4) Reinstall VideoStudio 9 again and all the components.

AFAIK the biggest limitation to VS menus is you can't move anything around. You can only modify what is there or add images with Photoimpact. For more menu options you need a application like DVD Workshop which allows you to modify/create practically anything. You can start with a clean slate if you prefer....

The new MovieFactory 4.0 gives you a little more control over the menu layouts. You can now move the thumbnails and text around, which makes it pretty customizable. You still have to use thumbnails though (sometimes I just want to use text buttons). For full menu customization, like thecoalman said, DVD Workshop is Ulead's best disc authoring program...

Hi erock1
Could you help me further on the menu template question?
I down loaded a trial copy of Movie Factory and indeed, found many .ufo files in template directories such as "Corporate" etc that are not in VS8 in the same directories.
I copied these files over to VS8 no problem and they appear in the appropriate template directory.
However.......and this is where it gets a little interesting, when I copy over entire directories from MF to VS8 which doesen't have these directories such as " vacation & Festivities", they do not appear in the Template directory drop down of VS8 when creating a DVD under Share.
Why.......?
.ufo files copy over and are shown in the template menu OK, why not new complete directories?
Help.

same problem I had they never showed up.

I also agree with the idea of moving them around, if they made it so you could move items around that would of made it so much more usefull.

Having to go back and forth from one program to a nother is useless and not needed, after all thtas what a all in one program is for like this, so make it so that it does its job without having to rely on another program.

What do you want for $100 :?: You get what you pay for. If you want EVERYTHING then you'll have to buy a software solution that costs BIG BUCKS :!:

Hi,

I find it pretty easy to design templates within VS9 and save them in My Favorites.

Since I have PI10, I can also design templates there, too.
