Pasting a mix of video and jpg in chronological order?
This may be easy, but a brief search of the manual and forum didn't find the answer.
During family events I customarily oscillate back and forth between taking movies and taking photos. When I bring them in to the Library, (I believe) they have to go to video and image folders, respectively. The two groups seem to come into the library in chronological order. respectively. I drag the photos to the storyboard (in chronological order); but then dragging the movies into the storyboard results in their all being together, not dispersed among the photos. I can move them appropriately, one by one, but it seems likely there is a better way. Is there? Thanks for any ideas you can give me!

I'm a little confused. Do you want them all to appear in chronological order, or do you want them all mixed up?

Given the fact that the library lists all the images & video clips in the chronological order. The best way would be
1) Select all images and paste it in the time line. This would ensure all images are in sequence
2) Do the same to the video clips.
All the video clips will lie after the images in a chronological order.
You can then, mix match images and video clips as you desire

I have a theory that mighr work but:babybowen wrote:Clevo wrote:He wants the stills and movies mixed but in order of Date of Recroding.Black Lab wrote:I'm a little confused. Do you want them all to appear in chronological order, or do you want them all mixed up?
Exactly right! But it sounds like that is not possible.
1) Are all files named as date and time eg 1300 221207.xxx? I believe some cameras can be set to name files with date and time.
2) I'm sure you can copy and past right from the file directory in Windows straight onto the timeline but I'm at work and cannot test this till I get home this evening.
If the two conditions exsist
You can theoritically sort your files by name in a windows file directory(where you have them stored in their special folder)...this will list files in chornilogical order no matter what the file extension is.
click first file then ***-click the last file, then copy and past straight into the time line.
I hope this theory works.

My understanding is that babybowen wants to first insert all the photos in chronological order, then insert all the video in chronological order. When inserting the video clips, to have VS automatically place them next to (mixed in with "dispersed among") the image clips based on the date/times. That's not possible, because the image (photo) and video clips are maintained in separate libraries.
It requires inserting a few photos, then adding some video clips for the same date/time. Adding the next photos, then video, and so on.
In order for VS to do what Babybowen is wanting, VS needs to be able to Sort on the Time-Line/Storyboard. I don't think that would be a good thing. Imagine having several overlay clips, titles, narrations, synced with your main video track. All of that would have to move in accordance with the main track. I think this type of function belongs with the "one-click editing" group.

Yes, but then what good is video editing if all you have to do is click one button? This is my opinion only... That equates to totally laziness..
A monkey would be able to edit video with that type of setup. I think that the human race is to be a bit sharper than a chimpanzee.

Exactly...there's more satisfaction when things are fiddly and you feel you got it right. It's an art and you learn more as you go along.vidoman wrote:Yes, but then what good is video editing if all you have to do is click one button? This is my opinion only... Assuming that all your clips are in a place where you can select them with windows explorer, I believe it is possible to do what you want by dragging in the clips without going through the library. Just drag them directly into the timeline. First, order the clips by time in explorer, then select the time range. Depending on your version of windows, you might have to fiddle with the selection procedure. E.g. you might have to click the last clip first, then shift select the first clip.
