Newbie needs help

Post by deonholt »

Hi there.

Ulead Movie Studio 11 (Trial)

Win XP Prof SP2, AMD Processor, 1.6GHz, 1.00GB Ram 70GB on HDD available.

Is there a place I can download some tutorial for this excellent piece of software? For some reason I do not have access to the help file of this trial version.

I could successfully get the different clips on my HDD and imported to my new project. I could also manage to make some transitions from one clip to the other.
Question 1:
Does VS has an overflow function whereby two scenes/clips crossfade from one scene/clip to the other so that one clip does not stop completely and the next one just starts of?

Question 2:
I want to make a DVD from our December holiday outings but would like to call the DVD something like December 2007. On this DVD there must be a menu with different buttons, such as: Lost City; Rhino & Lion Park; Christmas Day; New Year's Day.
How do I do this?

Sorry for all the questions but I unfortunately do not have a help function available and I am also very new to video editing & compiling.

Thank for your help & patience.

Q1: Yes, it's called an overlay effect

Q2: Creating chapters. VS does this in a reasonable way but...

Check out this link to get you atarted:

http://takeoneflix.com/tutorial-index/

Also check the tutorial forum by clicking on the forum index top left corner of your screen (under the logo)

Also..the manual is available for download from the corel site.

Thank you, Clevo, for the prompt reply.

I had a look at the link and find it VERY interesting. I have also downloaded the manual and am busy running through it.

Just another 2 questions:
1. When I run the VS Movie Wizard, I get as far as importing my video media. BUT, upon clicking the NEXT button, I can add nothing or see nothing on the next screen where I am supposed to choose a template. I can choose between Home Movie and Slide Show. When choosing Home Movie, I can see none of the previous screen's clips not can I add/change text or anything.
The only way to get out of here, is to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and choose to close VS.

2. Is it because I run the trial version that I do not have the help function available?

As for your second question ....
I recently purchased VS11+ and it didn't have help either. I ended up downloading the manual as you did. On the plus side, the forums are very helpful and there are links to tutorials.

VS11 trial should have a few menus. Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated Nov. '07.

And yes, counter-intuitively I would agree, Corel/Ulead do not include the Help files for size reasons. But they are virtually identical to the Manual, so now you have that, you have what they Help files would have provided anyway...

Hi vidoman.

Unfortunately the download did not help. I'm busy un-installing & then re-installing VS again. Should this help?

Yes it may help. Something obviously did not get installed correctly. When reinstalling try shutting down your antivirus, spyware type programs. Be sure to install under an account that has Admin Permissions.

I have never used the wizard. So I can't comment on it's ways. I prefer to be in complete control of the editing. though, it should work.

Is a bit on the light side when it comes to video editing resources.

For e.g. Your hard drive might be near to capacity. You'll find video takes up a lot of space and your problems could be stemming from a lack of resources.

I hope you have plenty of room! :)

vidoman,

I did shut down my Antivirus and still no luck. I checked the template folders on my hdd; they were there with files in them.

I have tried to use the wizard to do a slideshow ... worked 100%? :?

I also have 70GB available on my HDD.
