I have had that sort of thing occur a few times but because I was closing the program anyway I jut ignore it. The program starts up fine the next time I open it. I wouldn't let it worry you unless you find that it affects any work you have saved or if the program fails to open next time you open it.

Yes, I too have been visited by the Gremlins of VS 11+ with the crashing at shutdown. The only way I have found to avoid this is to save what I am working on and then clear the timeline by selecting "New" or sometimes, just clearing the timeline before closing beats the Gremlins at their game(s).
I, like Steve, most of the time, just let it ride since the next time I fire up the program, everything loads properly, along with the message "Do you want to recover...?" to which I ALWAYS say NO. Hope this helps!!!

VS11+ crashing after exit
I am relieved to find that other people are experiencing VS11+ "crashing" after exit. I contacted Corel technical support and thus far they have only suggested checking that virtual memory was set to 1024 / 4096 (mine was), and doing a "clean" re-installation. I tried this and it hasn't made any difference! Ironically, I have tried e-mailing Corel again via their web site but just get a script error message. They must be fed up with me!
Like others in this forum, I have learned to live with the problem although it is very annoying when this is the only piece of software on my machine that behaves in this way.

Hi to all!
I'm also experiencing the same problem, VS11 crashes on exit - only after i worked with projects. it won't crash if i don't do edit.
though.
so same with other users, if it asked me to load previous project during startup, just no and continue with editing. at least it can eventually let me create the dvd.

VS11+ crashing after exit
I have been in contact with the Corel technical people who expressed great concern at this problem. They asked me to run MSRPT and send them the .cab file which I have done and they have promised to analyse this and try to find out what is causing the error. I have also e-mailed them the link to this topic so that they can see that it is not just me experiencing problems. I will post again when (if??) I get a reply.
