Render different size

Post by Alley »

Can anyone tell me why - when I render a clip in Ulead, and I use that clip in a different application, I get black bars top and bottom - I am NTSC and I select DV 720 x 486 or 640 x 480 - same thing?

Alley, you have posted three separate questions and provided almost no details to go on. Kind of like calling your mechanic and saying my car won't start, what's wrong?

Please read the announcement at the top of the forum page and provide the requested info so we can try to help you.

I filled in my profile. If I have a slide show, for example, on the timeline, and I select "Share", Create Video File, DV 4:3, and I render that file and then I use that clip to merge with another 4:3 file in another application, the Ulead rendered file has black bars top and bottom compared to my other files.

For example, if I am merging it with something I rendered in Iclone, at 4:3 AVI.

Is that enough info or what else do you need to know?

If you are getting letter boxing on a 4:3 monitor your project were set at 16:9

If you actually read the "read this first before posting" you'll give us enough details to work with.

Thanks

Good grief, the "mood" of this board is a tad cranky. I posted some honest questions and if I missed the "read before posting", etc., there is no need for everyone to be like that. I've never quite come across this sort of attitude on a webboard before.

Yes, of course I should search and of course I should fill out profile - but I don't see why I was met with a sort of "ready to pounce" sort of greeting. No, "Welcome to the forum Alley". Lighten up guys.

I've been with Ulead for version 8, 9 and 10. I don't have 11 yet because it didn't seem to have much more than 10 for my needs. I've just bought a High Definition camera.

Certainly newcomers who are met with this sort of confrontation will be frightened away. :?

And no, my project was "not" set to 16:9. :D

Those of us who "work" on the Board are all volunteers, and we handle dozens of questions per day. We have tried to minimise the inevitable repetitiousness of questons with the top sticky posts, but of course it still occurs.

However, to be confronted with not one, but three consecutive, different threads from you, none of which provided much information to work with (and clearly indicating you had not searched or read the top sticky posts as you acknowledge you could have), was a tad disconcerting.

Sorry if we made you feel uncomfortable, but spare a thought for us too!

I understand what you are saying, but a simple "Please fill out your profile" or a question with a little smiley would have been just as effective - rather than a scolding. :D

I shouldn't complain too much after all you did at least get a response.
I on the otherhand asked a question last Friday and to date haven't had any response.
That said I guess my question was either stupid or asked so often that although I did search the forum it was assumed I didn't as if I had I would have found out the answer.

As KenBerry points out they are all volunteers and if it wasn't for forums such as this giving free help to novices such as me products like videostudio would not be anything like as much fun to use.
So. although I am disappointed not to have had a response to my question it is only reasonable that people are asked to give a certain amount of information from the outset.

That's a cranky or scolding reply??? All I did was ask you to read the top post and provide information - information that, by the way, you still haven't provided (clip properties, settings, etc.). Before your third post to this thread we didn't even know what version of VS you were using.

As Ken stated, we are all just volunteers, and were all in the same boat as you at one time or another. But we can't possibly give you any kind of knowledgable answer without some necessary info.

Okay guys - I hear ya!! Here are the wet noodles. There I've turned around now - 1000 lashes!!!!!!

The truth is, I am not working on any particular project at the moment. My interests have gone the way of animation using Iclone/Poser. I need an editor to stitch my projects together. Ulead is a program I haven't used for a while. I have in the past created some very nice projects with it, including the graduation show for my daughter's school and some business projects for my hustand. My niece, recently purchased Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus. She is creating a slide show for an artist to display her works and my niece is quite talented (Sharon if you're out there, this is your aunti getting in trouble here  ). Seeing her over Christmas renewed my interest in the software.

Additionally, I saw your contest. I spent 4 hours last night watching all the videos. I had to re-join the forum as I had not posted in some time. I wanted to vote. Why...you ask? Because I run an idependent project with a group of volunteers and we are about to launch our third world project. I know what it is like to get honest participation out of people these days and I appreciated all the work you people put into it (I know what it's like - thankless at times). I needed to make 3 posts to vote. I thought I was helping.

I won't talk about my project until I get official permission. I had been told previously that I could mention it in January. Corel have provided prizes for us, as have some other companies. I've written to your senior administrator just yesterday to ask if I may now post and am waiting to hear from him so I will say no more at this point.

The bottom line is that the problems I posted are real problems, but I'll have to load up a project and I can't believe that I used ulead for as long as I did, and didn't notice the volume issue between clip and project.

Also, the project I would like to tell people about has no profit for myself. It is meant for fun and learning. It actually costs me money personally and I can't tell you have much time myself and the other memers of the volunteer committee have spent in order to share this with our video editing friends around the world. We are not affiliated with anyone, just an independent group of hobbyists. Feel free to PM me is you would like the website address to check out. :)

Truce?? :D Friends?? :D
