Flying Title Effect

Post by erock1 »

Top of the day VS users. I've been using VS for a number of years now and this is the first time I've encountered a problem with a title effect.

I'm currently using VS8. I've placed a .jpeg in the timeline (just like I've done 1,000s of times before) and added titles that fly in from the bottom and fly out from the top. Kinda like the Star Wars text intro. Like I said, I've used this effect a lot of times before all with success.

What I've got this time is, after rendering the DV .avi to an mpeg2 file and burning to a DVD. When played on my TV, the .jpeg picture that the moving title is going over seems to have a wave movement. The .jpeg is first shown on the screen perfectly, then the title comes in from the bottom and stops at the middle (no problem), but as the title moves up to exit the pics top, the pic seems to move like a wave effect.

This is baffling me :? I've checked and re-checked all the properties and have also tried making a second .mpeg2. The resulting DVD has the same wierd effect. Now, the un-rendered .avi do not show this problem when previewing and the created .mpeg also do not show this wave effect when previewing before burning.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
TIA Erock

Hi Erock

This suggestion may be getting a bit repetitious but try turning off 'smart render' when making your Mpeg 2 file.

Get your self a few Dvd-Rw discs, that way you wont make any coasters.

Create a Dvd Folder of your work, you should be able to play the completed Dvd’s Ts folders using Power Dvd, to check the final product.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Trevor for the suggestions.
I never use the "SmartRender" option as I never found it to work or work properly. As I indicated, the mpeg2 file created after rendering, previews OK, no sign of this strange wave effect on the .jpeg so creating a _TS folder with the files wouldn't help.

Just to add, this wave effect isn't a flickering effect that can sometimes occur when displaying a picture on an interlaced device like a TV. I also make sure the "anti-flickering" option is selected.

I don't want to dilute my original post, so I'll keeo it short. I found SmartRender to be unreliable in operation. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just re-renders a perfectly good .mpeg file.

Hi,

I would check that the jpeg is in the correct 4:3 ratio. If you are in the US, I'd also be sure to limit color levels to 16-16-16 - 235-235-235.

Thanks Mike. I always retain aspect ratio. I'm not sure I understand what the RGB values oe scaling have to do with the effect I'm experiencing. Can you explain?

TIA,
Erock
