I've got myself a little baffled about which files and how VS11.5 uses them.
What I attempting to do is keep media files off the C:\ drive and keep that blaot free for system and Vista files.
On my second HDD I set up a "dump" file called d:\VS dump
I then direct VS through File/Preferences/General tab to use the Dump files as the "working" file.
Q1: what is a working file
Q2: What is the difference between the working file and the file found at:
C:\Users\Charles\Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0
Proxy Files: Found under File/Preferences/Smart Proxy I set this to the "dump" File too though I'm not entirely sure what the smart Proxy file does. I imagine it will creat temporary proxy files while you are working/editing
Q3: What do proxy files actually do and is is OK to have them in the same place as the working file?
Default File:
C:\Users\Charles\Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0
This is where I find all the "capture frame as still" files.
Q4: Do I move this file (as it contains other subfolders)
to the D:\ drive?
Q5: How do I reset it as default in a different location.
Thanks for your help

Clevo -- the simple answer is that they are all the same and all serve the same purpose!
C:\Users\Charles\Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0 is set up by VS when it installs, and it is meant to be the default working folder for everything associated with VS -- for temporary working files, which get erased (automatically) once they are done with; for still photos; for project files unless you save them elsewhere; for the final burning files (some of your sub-folders) and menu files etc associated with the burning process.
Note the latter, since you actually missed one set of C:\Users\Charles\Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0 !!! That is because, quite separately, there is another working folder under Preferences in the first icon of the burning module. By default it is the same as everything else, though you can change that to anywhere you like on your computer or attached external discs.
Just as you can change the main working folder in File > Preferences > General to anywhere else too. Just remember where it was. That will not change the fact that you have a C:\Users\Charles\Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0, but if you change that in the Editor AND the burning module, it will remain empty. So you could delete it in those circumstances if you wanted to. But it will be reinstalled next time you reinstall VS!!!
As for Proxy files, can't help you there, as I have never used them. Though I suspect they too will always end up in C:\Users\Charles\Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0 (unless you have changed it!!!)
