Issues with Conversion

Post by nekoh »

Sorry if this is in the wrong place or if someone's already brought up this issue... ^^;;

I'm using a Trial version of VideoStudio 11Pro and it's been working fine for me until recently when I couldn't completely save the project file into an avi. format.
I've done that heaps of times before, but now, all I get is a Windows error right before it finished conversion. The video file's there when I check but I get another Windows error when I try opening the video.
I've tried stopping the conversion before the error comes out but that doesn't seem to work either.
I have a feeling this might have something to do with the size of my movie but I'm asking here anyway just in case.

Um.. suggestions anyone?

Space on the hard drive?

Post by 2Dogs »

Make sure that you have enough hard drive space. If you have more than one partition or drive, make sure that there's also enough drive space for the temp files.

To test out this as a possible cause of the problem, repeat the test using just a short video of a minute or two in duration.

(I see from your "System" button that you actually don't have a pc..... :lol: )

and it's hard to make a decision on whether it is the length of movie when we don't know how long it is. :)

Can you let us know, also the file types you have on the timeline.

Graham's last comment is particularly important. You are wanting to convert to "an .avi format". But which one? There are many. AVI is merely a carrier or wrapper format which is used as an extension by quite a few codecs. Uncompressed or raw avi is huge -- 65 GB per hour of video. DV/AVI is compressed but still large -- 13 GB per hour. But then, at the other end of the spectrum, you get highly compressed mpeg-4 like codecs such as DivX and XVid, which also call themselves avi, but where you can fit virtually an entire 90 minute movie onto a CD...

So right click on your existing file within the VS timeline or library pane, and copy down all its properties here please (or their properties, if they are different formats). And tell us the exact format of what you are trying to convert to and exactly how you are doing it i.e. what settings you may have used.
