My apologies if this has already been covered -- I tried unsuccessfully to find a relevant thread, but I'm a beginner to video editing so I don't really know which keywords are most relevant. I have a Sony HDR-SR8 camcorder that generates .m2ts files, which I gather can be read by MF 6+ with the HD plug-in. If I start on a project in HD format, I understand that I can burn it using a Blu-Ray burner, or in AVCHD format on a standard DVD burner which produce DVDs that can be played on a Blu-Ray player.
But is it possible to burn the same project to DVDs such that they can be played on a standard DVD player? In other words, can MF6+ downgrade the project from HD to standard DVD at the burning stage? Or do I have to start a new project in DVD format and repeat the whole editing process?
Choosing output format
It depends on what module you are presently in. If your in the AVCHD module you can highlight your edited clip, click on Export -> Customize -> Options and create a dvd mpeg2 compliant video file. Just make sure to make the correct settings related to fielding, framerate & framesize. In the mpg selection, under the Compression Tab you will see NTSC DVD or PAL DVD, select your format then fine tune all the rest of the settings like compression/quality=100%, audio=Dolby Audio etc. Then save the file as a dvd compliant video file to your harddisk.Or do I have to start a new project in DVD format and repeat the whole editing process?
Start a new project and select dvd, then insert that mpeg2 file you created, create chapters, menus & burn a dvd. Do not edit the video anymore or it will be re-encoded which you don't want to do.
