Cannot Initialize application unable to load file VS11.5

Post by polarbear »

I've same problems some users posted before:

After installing VS11 full + updates + patches, I got the following error message after trying to start any application.

"Kann Anwendung nicht initialisieren. Die Datei %s kann nicht geöffnet werden. [19151:26:8] [15034:1:36]"
I'd translate this as:
"Cannot initialize application. Unable to open file/library %s [...][...]".

1. Starting VS by clicking the icon (desktop) or clicking directly on Sample-PAL.VSP
2. Window apears offering "VS-Editor, Filmassistant, DV to DVD Assistent"
3. Clicking in one of these causes the application to start
4. modal errormessage apears
5. Clicking on error message closes application

Order of installed files:
1. UVS_11_PLus_ESD_G_main.exe
2. UVS11_Patch_Ger.exe
3. UVS11_Plus_ESD_GER_PowerPack.exe
4. UVS_11_Plus_ESD_G_bonus.exe (Ulead VideoStudio ContentPack)
After installing WinDVD8 silver created by Ulead VideoStudio ContentPack the whole folder was deleted manually.
5. uvs115_contentpack_g.exe

Installed under Windows Vista Ultimate admin account (no other accounts created)

Any ideas, please?

1. Was there any specific reason for installing your (4) at that point? Why not earlier in the process? And why delete it at that point? When you say you deleted it manually, does that mean you did not use Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (or the Vista equivalent) but instead just deleted it?

2. Why did you install (5) at all? Steps 1 - 3 would have given you VS11.5+ in any case. Why install a separate 11.5 content pack? And where did you get it? Hopefully you did not buy it when you had already obtained the upgrade to 11.5 free?

Hi Ken,

thanks for replying.

After order was completed the following list of files were provided for download:

1. Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus (UVS_11_PLus_ESD_G_main.exe)
2. Corel MediaOne Plus
3. Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Content Pack (uvs115_contentpack_g.exe)
4. Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Bonus Content (UVS_11_Plus_ESD_G_bonus.exe)

Does that mean all patches and upgrades are included? Filename says UVS 11+. There is a hint on one of the webpages that says something like this (translated from german): "Are you owner of UVS 11? Click here to upgrade UVS 11.5 free of charge". The link leads to the update and patches webpage. There I downloaded UVS 11 Update-Pack (no. 2 of the installation list) because I thought, I've to do so to get V11.5.

Was there any specific reason for installing your (4) at that point?
No, but there has been no specific installation guide either. The bonus content provides e.g. additional sounds and stuff to create effects. In addition it provides WinDVD.
When you say you deleted it manually, does that mean you did not use Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (or the Vista equivalent) but instead just deleted it?
Yes, I just deleted it because after all the installation steps I accomplished there are only two items added at the Add/Remove Programs-Section: Ulead Video Studio 11 and InterVideo WinDVD8.
The installtion of Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Bonus Pack was a simple unpack of its contents to a folder. After that I started and finished installing WinDVD as part of the unpacked bonus pack. After that I deleted the folder with the bonus content manually.
Why did you install (5) at all? Steps 1 - 3 would have given you VS11.5+ in any case. Why install a separate 11.5 content pack? And where did you get it? Hopefully you did not buy it when you had already obtained the upgrade to 11.5 free?
Because it was offered after completing the order and because ther wasn't any comment to do not or a comment that the contents are included anywhere else. So I thought I should install it.

Could you provide the correct installition procedure (files and order), please? Is there a uninstall procedure for the parts not supported by 'Add/Remove Programs'?
Any further recommendations?

After reading some other posts I probably found a solution. So I uninstalled the whole application first. Now I installed files in the following order:

1. UVS_11_PLus_ESD_G_main.exe
2. uvs115_contentpack_g.exe
3. UVS_11_Plus_ESD_G_bonus.exe (optional)

(filenames may change for other localized versions. This describes a german installation)

After installing uvs115_contentpack_g.exe the version was shown as 11.5.0157.1 Plus.
At that point the help file vstudio.chm was installed, too. So if you encounter problems with a missing help file you may have forgotten to install a content pack.

In a previous step of my experimental trial installation I installed UVS11_Patch_Ger.exe in a 4th step. Unfortunately this leads to the errormessage "Cannot initialize application..." described above. So, how to get version 11.5.0157.2 Plus???

Now I've lost hours of time to find a solution. Corel should provide a short comment of what to do with the files provided for download.

Hope that helps.

None of us here work for Corel, but I would agree with you that they should issue clear instructions.

My own path to get to VS11.5.0157.2 was the following:

Originally, I bought the upgrade version of VS11+, which consisted of

1. 1. UVS_11_PLus_ESD_main.exe
2. Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Content Pack
3. Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Bonus Content

Installing 1& 2 gave me VS11.0.0157.1 Plus. The Bonus pack is elective. It does not add anything which directly affects VS itself.

On 6 November, when it was released, I installed the update patch (the bottom one on the Download page on the Ulead website). This converted my VS to version 11.0.0157.2 Plus.

Then when the free Power_Pack for existing VS11+ users was released that, I installed it and it gave me 11.5.0157.2.

Now it could be that Corel are now marketing a whole new package which you call "1. Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus". However, I notice that you call it, in brackets "(UVS_11_PLus_ESD_G_main.exe)" -- which is really only the German equivalent of my own (1) above.

In other words, I think you should be loading in this order:
1. UVS_11_PLus_ESD_G_main.exe
2. Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Content Pack (uvs115_contentpack_g.exe)
3. Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus Bonus Content (UVS_11_Plus_ESD_G_bonus.exe)
4. The 6 November update patch
5. The Power Pack.

Possible fix ... change monitor resolution to a "standa

Post by turtle »

OK, this is just another stab at the issue but I had an identical problem and the fix was relatively simple...change your video resolution.

Corel states that you need at least 1024 x 768 resolution for proper functioning; however, what they fail to state is that even if your resolution is in fact greater that 1024 x 768, there are certain resolutions that will in fact throw the exact error in question (i.e., "cannot initialize application" error 15034). Although I by no means have the time to test my theory out completely, I can say that when I was running 2360 x 1770 VideoStudio threw this error. Additionally, when running the application inside a VMware virtual machine at a resolution of 1046 x 1558 (yes, and odd number but that's what happens in VMware when you have the guest OS fit the host OS screen resolution), VideoStudio also threw the same error in exactly the same fashion.

Hope that helps you, or perhaps someone else out there, in similar circumstances.

FIX: Cannot Initialize application unable to load file VS11.

Post by polarbear »

Hi there,

after all that time I had to reinstall VS 11.5 on a new machine and encountered the same problem again.
I thought I'd used some of these burger transistions and copied a few of them to the vfx_plug directory before starting the program for the first time after install. The error occured again.
After removing the additional transistions the app started as expected.

Hope that helps someone
