Video - Audio out of sync after capture

Post by ADAM1872 »

I recently transferred some old VHS footage to my Mini DV camcorder and then captured it via firewire into VS8. I have noticed there is a slight time delay between the video and the audio as I get further through the captured footage. I have checked the footage on the mini dv tape and it is fine. The problem seems to be in the capture from the camcorder to the PC. I have transferred other footage taken directly by the camcorder in digital format and there is no problem with it. Is this to do with the original footage being analogue? :(

I don't think that is the problem, especially as the sound and video are in sync on the camcorder.
Question: are you capturing to mpeg format? I get the impression that this can cause some issues - the computer has to do a lot of work, both in capturing the data stream and encoding it on the fly.
You will probably get better results capturing to DV format - this just copies the data directly from the tape with little modification. Edit it at will, and transform to mpeg later at your leisure.
