Importing from DVD

Post by meta »

I'm trying to import some video footage from a DVD-RAM so that I can edit it a little more and combine it with some other video files.
I'm using VS9, but a have a problem...

1) I go to 'Capture' and choose 'Import from DVD/DVD-VR'
2) I choose the video file I want to import.
3) The CPRM check runs and complete's OK.
4) I click 'Import'.
5) At 99% I get a warning dialog box saying 'Invalid Parameter'.
6) Then it closes.

The file is copied to my computer, but the picture is half the screen size and there is no sound when playing the file in Windows Media Player. But it seems OK in VS9, but not tested it fully.

Anyone else had this error or anything similar?

This has been mentioned a few times on this forum. It's worthwile to make a search through the VS forum.

Just copy the VOB files en rename them to mpg.

Yes but how do you rename a VOB file to MPG? Any simple method?

right click the file and select rename, change the .vob to .mpg. If the file extensions are not present on your computer go to My Computer from the menu bar on the top select tools>folder optiond> select the view tab and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types" under advanced settings.

That little piece of advice I would suggest to anyone regardless. One of the tricks employed by virus makers is to try and hide the extension by naming a file filename.mpg.exe Average user only sees the mpg and thinks it's a movie when in fact it's a executable....

Does the same principle renaming the VOB file work for DVD-RAM (VRO Files)?

You could try it, the reason it works with vob is because they are mpeg's, just a different extension . I always use DVD Decrypter to extract VOBS myself, works wonders. You can even slect specific chapters etc.

Renaming VRO files to MPEG generally works very well.

It depends on how much on-disk editing you have done with the DVD-RAM.
