I have downloaded the test (trial) version of VS 11, logged in as administrator under Vista Ultimate 32b, and run the self-extracting installer's exe file as administrator. Result: After one hour, still no user window of the installer was shown. Then I tried to abort the installer's and setup's processes. Result: Windows then became hung, too.
I conclude: The VS 11 installer does not work under Vista.
Too bad - now I cannot even test whether I might like VS.
Should I wait for VS 12 with a hopefully corrected installer then?
More generally, Ulead is by far not the first video software where already the installer was unable to run or run properly. Why? Installation of a program should be the easiest thing to program. In fact, the user should be allowed to do the installation himself by creating a program directory and copying all the files there (maybe unzip them, if the programmers think that there are too many). How is it possible that video softwares fail to execute the simple tasks? Since they do - why not let the user do the installation manually? If the programmers are not able to do it correctly, they should not prevent usage entirely. Users able to use video software are also able to create a directory and copy files there. So it is simply unnecessary to create installation problems artificially.

There is a patch for users who are having installation problems here:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm
You can also extract the installation files to a directory of your choice by opening the installation file with winzip.
