Best CPU for MF6

Post by Dobs »

I am looking at purchasing a new PC and was wondering if anyone has an opinion as to what CPU would be faster for HD/DVD video encoding in MF6. Would I be better off with a dual core 64 bit Athlon, quad-core intel, or a dual core intel with a faster clock speed?

My Intel Q6600 quad (2.4Ghz) performs nice, XP or Vista.
All programs, not just MF.

Will a quad core give me significant gains in MF over a dual core?

I wouldn't look at a Dual Core.
I would look at the Core2 line, which is Core2 Duo or Core2 Quad.

A Dual Core processor is not the same as a Core2, it is confusing but the Core2 line of processors are faster due to internal 64bit & parallel processing.

Most users now when buying a new pc are going with the Q6600 if working with avc/h264.
I posted some rendering times in another thread.

The highest time was using CBR at 100% compression. Usually VBR comes out faster encoding on a Q6600.
