Hi, Steve. It looks like I've missed out on this one. I've finished my edit, but I won't be able to put the video on YouTube until I'm able to transfer the video to an internet-capable PC, which will be at about this time tomorrow.

It took me a lot longer than expected to work out how to use VS11+. It's not as intuitive as I expected, considering I'm from an MSP background.

Best wishes,

Gareth
I will allow your entry. Please update the Competition forum with your link as soon as possible, any delay will obviously be taken into consideration by the forum membership who will be judging the competition.

Good luck with your entry.

Before anyone tries to complain I would like to point out that a week ago Corel wanted me to extend the competition by a further month in view of the limited number of entries received - however i objected on the grounds that any further extension to the competition date would be unfair to those who have already submitted entries and would obviously have to wait a lot longer to find out the result.

It's as expensive as the rest of the UK, really, but like any tourist centre, there are easy ways to save money. Walk for five minutes in any direction out of Covent Garden (where the "angels" were filmed), and you'll find restaurants that are half the price of the ones, quieter, and at least as good. They aren't in the same rush for you to eat up and leave, either.

It's not helped by the strong pound. in November, a discussion on the mug-sw list got me thinking about buying a video camera in the 'States rather than here. The reasoning went that the TV standard used by a 24p HD camera is irrelevant, if it's never going to be connected directly to a TV, so I may as well price up NTSC HD cameras.

Anyway, it turned out that it was cheaper to fly to New York, stay 3 days, and buy a PAL camera from there!

Thanks for looking.

question...

Post by abc »

so ~ many UK people go to U.S.A? Do you think Pound will be better in the future? or Euro? I would like to save foreign currency.

By the way, if I never been to UK, which city do you recommend? How many days? How about the budget?

These things have a tendency to settle down after a while. The dollar and euro should have parity, the dollar should be worth about .70 GBP. I never have enough money for long-term investments, and if I did, I wouldn't risk currency.

Any. The basic problem with the UK is it's cold and wet. It's small enough that you can use anywhere as a base and get to anywhere else pretty easily - except that the rail system is useless. If you're planning to do the tourist thing your budget depends where you start and how canny you are with bargaining. If you like the city life, choose London or Manchester. If you like nightlife, Leeds or Newcastle. History - Oxford or York. If you're after a combination of these - Edinburgh.

It doesn't matter which of these you choose, if you like the countryside. Some of the most beautiful rural areas in the world are within 20 min drive of any of these cities.

Generally speaking London is the most expensive, and the price of everything drops the further away you get. However, that's not as noticeable as it used to be, and for some things (like petrol) is completely wrong: Petrol is cheaper in the southeast than in the midlands. There are some exceptions: I got a pint of Guinness for ¢G2.70 in a central London pub when I was back there before Christmas. At the hotel where my stepdaughter works, 200 miles away, the same pint costs ¢G4.50. That's where the canniness comes in. If you go where the tourists go, you pay tourist prices.
