Hi all. I have searched the forum for my problem and have not been able to find a solution. I take movie clips from my digital still camera, edit them in VS11plus, then render them back using the "same as first video clip". I do this because I like the speed of the smart render. I then take the video and convert to .flv for my website. These are just small clips of my kids etc.
The problem:The parts that actually have to render end up choppy.
The camera uses the MJPEG codec. I have no problems if I render to another format such as .mov - then convert to .flv. It just takes a lot longer to render.
My guess is that there is a problem with my MJPEG codec. I know I have one, because it plays just fine stand alone - unedited. I have tried fixing the codec myself a while ago, but messed up a lot of stuff in the process. I am looking for any suggestions.
I have no problem rendering anything else - DV to MPEG2/DVD, anything to .mov or divx works fine.
Also, this problem is relatively new. I remember being able to do this with no probs before - I think back when I had VS 9.0
PS: Anyone know a way to encode directly to .flv? I am trying to reduce all this encoding, and YouTube quality is horrible, which is why I am hosting the vids myself.

You can do a Google search for video to flash or FLV encoders. There's a few around. Or you can purchase Adobe's CS2 or 3 whatever they're up to now, which will allow you to convert to FLV, however real pricey..
If this worked before, and you fiddled around messing up your MJPEG codec, try re-installing the codec. The easiest method would be to re-install the software included with your camera. Which incidentally is what make/model?
There is a patch for Kodak's MOV video file format. It was for earlier versions, and I suspect there should not be an issue currently.
For converting your video from one format to almost any other, try SUPER. It can convert DivX, Xvid or even MPEG4 files.

I have a canon sd630. I have not installed the Zoombrowser software as I use Photoshop Elements for organzizing/editing. I have read that the Zoombrowser software does not contain codecs. I use Macromedia's Flash Encoder to encode flv. As these videos are just family shots, and not HD qaulity, I am looking to reduce the prep time by using the smart render.
I downloaded Morgan Multimedia's Mjpeg thinking it would replace the default MJPEG codec, but it just shows up as another codec in Ulead, it does not replace the default codec in Windows, which I believe is quartz.dll or something.
I have tried updating quartz using directX but the problem persists. It has to do with the way Ulead is rendering the file. Ulead's properties after selecting "same as first video clip" show it is using the "MJPEG Compressor", not the newer Morgan MJPEG that I installed. I have also tried rendering with the newer Morgan MJPEG, but it does not "Smart Render", which is what I want to accomplish.
Maybe it is another problem and not the codec problem?

The MJPEG arrangement in VS11+ needs to have a quality (or compression) setting but seems not to. Compared with MJPEG .avi files from the Canon still camera (S2-IS), VS11+ creates files that are ten times the size. Too hard for VS11 or WMP to play back. Maybe that's why the rendered parts play back choppy. Don't know what effect that would have on render to flv.

Maybe that is the problem. This Canon takes 640x480 vids at 30fps compared to my older camera that was 320x240 at 15fps. The flv conversion renders choppy just like the original. I originally thought the video was maybe just too big and WMP couldn't handle it, but I tried VLC and a fiew others - all having the same prob.
Anyone know of an editor other than Adobe premeir that can export directly to flv? (Premeir wont run on my system - needs SSE2 or something)
