Unable to open file. mp4

Post by rt2301 »

For some reason I can't import mp4 files.

I get this message when I try importing.
Unable to open file [The file Location].
File format mismatch.
Anyone know the reason why?

It might be due to the codec used to create the mp4 file. You would need to have that codec available on your system. There are a variety of codecs used to compress/decompress formats (divx, xvid) and put them in the mp4 or avi container.

As Clevo suggested. Please read this post, and return with as much of the information as possible.

MP4 import problem

Post by tommytucker »

I have noticed this also. It has been quite some time since I have tried to download and import a video from Youtube into the timeline. I have had no problem previously, but now Youtube offers you the choice of a 'high quality' file version which is not FLV, but MP4. I get that same error message when trying to import the MP4 downloaded video file.

What I do is convert MP4 files to MPEG2 by using a program called SUPER. This is a freebie and you can get it here.

Works fine.

Hey, I have Super and will try that again

Post by tommytucker »

I had already tried using that go around, and converted the MP4 file to AVI, but when I tried to import. VS10+ gave me an error message that the audio codec could not be found. Super was converting the audio part of the video MP4 file to MP3. Could you tell me what settings at the top of Super in the drop downs..the Output container info for video and audio that you use for success with importing the converted file?
Just tried that go around, using MPEG2 in the first two drop downs in Super and MP2 in Audio drop down. I can import the file into the timeline but the video and audio are not in sync.
