JVC Everio---Sorting Files by Date AND Time

Post by johnrr6 »

I have found a "solution" but seems to me there must be an eaiser way....

Situation:

I currently simultaneously film baseball hitters from two angles (side and front)...

My side camera sits about 60 feet from the hitter down the 1st Base side and my front view camera sits beyond the center field fence on a platform about 300 feet away and is zoomed into the hitters front.

I control both of the JVC Everio Hard Drive Camcorders models GZ-MG130 and GZ-MG155 with a Rube Goldberg setup a guy in England help me develop through the use of his IR LEDs and hobby Remote Control Car receivers http://www.gentles.ltd.uk/gentled/index.htm

Darn thing works like a charm----starts and stops both camcorders simultaneously----so the video files are "synched" atomatically when I place the Frontview of the hitter as a PIP within the Sideview video track....

And the Hard Drive Camcorders make it MUCH easier and less time consuming than having to "Capture" off of MiniDV Camcorders, albeit the Video is not as spectacular as MiniDV. I just dump the files to a computer off the hard drives of the Camcorders-----not having to mess with Cyberlinks VERY slow and clutzy software for the Everio----I just use Windows.......

Now HERE is where I run into problems.......

The Everio uses a file naming structure that I cannot figure out----

And when you try to SORT the files in a common Window-----it will sort them by Date----then uses ridiculous file name as the secondary sort source.....MOOOVA---MOOOV1----MOOOVD----or some such nonsense.

Since all the files are recorded on the SAME DATE----I cannot for the life of me get Windows to sort the files in the correct order for adding into the library of VideoStudio 11Plus.

I HAVE to have those files in the correct sort order for game continuity and so both Sideview and Frontview video tracks will "Synch" properly.

Fortunately----I found a file renaming software that not only renames the files with a new title----but also can sort them by date---AND TIME http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/

But while this product works great----it's another step that adds to my overall production process.

Is there an easier way to do this within the Library of VideoStudio???

I don't care what the filenames are----I just want them sorted by date AND TIME.

If I can just dump these files into the Library right off the Everios hard drive----then have the library sort them properly----it would be a BIG timesaver.

Is this possible????

Thanks for any help suggestions in advance.

I hate to ask the obvious, but have you tried it? You can sort by date in VS (one of the icons above the library - sorry I don't have VS on this computer). I assume it will also put them in the order of time within that date.

Can you not just use Windows explorer to sort them according to date? Just go to the top of the folder and you'll find "sort by..." in the view section.

I feel totally Stupid!!!

I went back to Ulead and looked at the interface all over again....

I feel totally stupid.....

Ulead Library sorts them just fine----by Date AND Time

All you have to do is click on the sort Button----and sort by date.....

I SWEAR I looked at the interface and I never saw that button although it's as big as brass....

Or my feeble brain registered it as something else.....

Either way----it works and will eliminate the extra non-necessary step----thus saving me big amounts of time.

Thanks for reminding me that the simple solution is usually the correct solution.....
