Video Capture Driver error in VS 11+
Using camcorder Canon HV 20 with firewire (ilink) connection with ac power rather than battery, I get the "video capture driver" error. With no camcorder connected, it does not appear on capture screen, strangely, as soon as camcorder is turned on, the VS 11+ recognizes the camcorder as Canon HD 20. But the "start capture" icon is still greyed and the error message appears. I have researched the forum and have the latest updated version. I am using current Sony computers and have large hard drives with windows XP media version. I have tried this on two different computers with same result. Note that in control panel - scanners and cameras, the Cannon HV 20 does not appear.

Welcome to the forums,
First, if your camcorder is not showing up, ie; Windows is not recognizing the camcorder, VS is not going to.
If you're getting an error and your camcorder is not plugged in, something is wrong with your install. Try reinstalling the program. The capture plug-in that Corel uses is the IVI.
Open up My Computer, then turn your camcorder on. You should see an icon representing your camcorder. When you shut-off your camcorder the icon should go away. That's because Firewire (i-Link, IEEE-1394) is Plug-n-Play, you don't need to shutdown your PC to start using it.

Video Capture Driver error in VS 11+
Thanks for the reply.
One Sony computer A, the Cannon HD 20 Icon appears on "My Computer," but does on appear in Control Panel - Scanners and Cameras.
On the second Sony computer B the Canon HD 20 Icon does not appear anywhere.
Note that VS 11+ recognizes the Canon HD 20 in the Capture Screen, but the error message "check is vidio capture driver is working properly", and the start capture icon is greyed out.
VS 11+ seems to know the source is the Canon HD 20, but capturing is not activating
The software seems to be responding the same on both computers, but only computer A shows an icon for the camcorder.
The display cards are NVidia GeForce 4 mx440 and NVidia GeForce 6600

UPDATE
Solved problem --- Camcorderinfo forum for Canon HV20 advised of a different Microsoft web site for the "latest" directX update.

This solved my problem with the video capture from a Canon HV20 camcorder.
Note that although I set the preference to be AVI format, the capture screen allowed only mpeg. Yet indicated HD resolution.
Is mpeg2 the format to be capturing with, I have always used AVI for standard resolution with previous camcorders?

HDV is a mpeg2 stream...
Yes,
HDV is a mpeg2 stream. You want to capture to mpeg2.
