DEVICE CONTROL

Post by bunclark »

Where can I get a Device Control Software Driver for my Canon MV700i Camcorder? :?

I'm able with VS8 to capture DV to AVI with my Camera using a FireWire lead, :) but understand I could get VS8 to show Controls rather than me using the Camera Controls.

Thanks in anticipation,

Regards JB.

This is what happens to my setup.

In capture mode, select format dv
Connect your camera via firewire and turn camera on to play mode.
The pc should see new hardware tick yes.
your camera should switch to play/pause
The first frame should be visible in the preview window.

Using my mouse i can now control the camera using the buttons under the preview window.

Does your setup do this?

Try launching the software first, then turn the cam on to VCR mode. The non-functioning buttons for controlling the cam usually happens to me if I don't do it in that sequence.

If I don't have my camera already connected up via the firewire cable,
When I start VS8 and capture, my PC crashes and re-boots.
My camera MUST be connected during the capture phase, however, all buttons and features in the software camera control window work 100%.

Ahhhh the wonderful world of computers, that's the exact opposite of how I need to do it. Never ceases to amaze....

OK Guys,

Thanks for all your advice which I'm already doing successfully and being able to see my Video in the Preview Window and Capture with my Canon Camera AND two Sony's.

The PC doesn't see new hardware, just shows the Video in the Preview Window straight away.

My only wish is to see all buttons and features in the software Camera Control Window :? instead of having to use Camera's own buttons with all three Cameras.

Don't I need Device Control Software Drivers so UVS8 will recognise the Camera and Control it?

Your cam should be plug and play on any firewire connection... providing it's communicating properly you can control it from VS. My example above was where it wouldn't communicate properly when the software was launched after the cam was connected. You control it with the buttons below the preview window in VS7 ,should be the same or simialar in 8 & 9. I'm guessing at this point you haven't realised that.

If that's not the case you can also try Windows Movie Destroyer to see if it's an issue with VS or a sytem problem. If it doesn't communicate with WMD try posting your question over at www.videohelp.com You'll probably have an answer in minutes.

Realised it! As I said "Thanks for all your advice which I'm already doing successfully"

THANKS AGAIN.

Might just give up unless anyone else has another idea :?:

When SP2 came out it "broke" the firewire connection for a lot of cams.... there's a thread somewwhere on videohelp about it with a fix. It's in the DV section. If I remember correctly they couldn't communicate at all, possibly they were in the same boat as you and never tried simply playing a tape to capture.

Found it in my favorites: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=252426

There's this page from MS:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... ash=XKC4S9

If the firewire port is on your mobo go to the manufacturers site and see if there is any updates for your BIOS that address Firewire port issues.

Same thing if it's PCI card but that's probably a dead end.

Try the cam on another coomputer, possibly it's the cam.

And have you checked MS Movie Destroyer as I suggested?

Got to start>control panel>system>device manager> and look to see that it's showing up in there. Mines listed as Canon DV Camcorder under Imaging devices. Try reinstalling the driver, also try uninstalling then turn the cam off and turn it back on to have windows reinstall. While your there look to see if there are any ? marks next to any of the devices.

One other issue that I'm aware of is that one brand of cam has issues communicating with 1394 cards that do not have a TI chip. I forget if it was canon or not.

Dear thecoalman,

I'm EXTREMELY APPRECIATIVE of all the time and help you have given me on my problem.

But, unfortunately I'm not that capable in following your suggestions and feel as I'm able to capture OK, albeit with using my camera controls - I'll live with it.

THANKS AGAIN.

God bless you and all the people here how give of themselves to help others.
