VS11+ does not see new Divx Codec--Second update It works

Sergio's fix works!
I completely wiped my computer tonight and reinstalled the
Dell Factory Image, went smooth as silk.
Installed Divx Pro Codec and registered it without any problems.
installed VS11+ and that install went very smooth.
VS11+ now shows the Divx Codec and lots more.

Way to to go Sergio 8)





I have not been able to get any help solving this problem so far.
I have Tech questions in at both Corel and Divx.com.

Divx Support has sent me a diag tool that creates 2 files
of detailed info about my computer and the Divx install.

If anyone has any idea's at all about getting VS11+ to
see the codecs let me know.

Hi Folks.
I just bought Divx Pro and installed it.
I opened VS11+ to edit a video and then tried to use the Divx
codec, but it does not show up in the compression options.

I searched and looked around for info everywhere on the board
and tried everything I found and still no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

That was the first thing I did, but the Divx codec is not
listed as a option.

I have tried reinstalling VS11+ several times and
the Divx codec several times without any luck.

Can we assume you have rebooted your computer since loading DivX? I have found that, as I upgrade to the latest version of the DivX Pro codec, the new version only appears in the VS list after I have rebooted.

I did that right away and still did not show up in Ulead.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling VS11+ but can not get a clean install from the Disk. (Have the box version)

We need to see what codecs are installed on your Vista Computer.
To do so open Windows media Player.

Show the Classic Menus in Windows Media Player

The Classic Menus in Windows Media Player (previously known as the menu bar) provide you access to most of the Player functions. They are hidden by default.

Although many of the functions in the Classic Menus also appear in the drop-down menus below the Now Playing, Library, Rip, Burn, and Sync tabs, you might want to show the Classic Menus to access the less frequently used commands that only appear on the File, View, Play, Tools, and Help menus.

To show the Classic Menus
Do one of the following:

Right-click an empty area of the taskbar (such as the area to the left of the Now Playing tab) or an empty area to the left or right of the playback controls, and then click Show Classic Menus.

Press CTRL+M.

To Obtain a list of your installed codecs

On the Help menu, click About Windows Media Player.
On the About Windows Media Player dialog box, click Technical Support Information.
Your Web browser will open a page that includes information about the related binary files, codecs, filters, plug-ins, and services installed on your computer.

Since DivX does not show up under the video codecs on your machine, the computer clearly thinks it has not been installed (or installed and registered). In other words it is not only a problem for Video Studio, but it seems nothing else, including Windows, can see the codec. Calling up the same listing using WMP on my own computer, I not only have the latest version 6.8 of the DivX Pro codec listed, but also the much older version 5.1.1, plus a host of other codecs.

I am at a loss, however, to know why DivX is not listed on yours, since it is (normally! :cry: ) a simple and straightforward process to install it. Did you register the codec once it was installed? Under the DivX Codec menu item on your Windows menu, there is an item "Register Products" where you enter the serial number for your Pro version. Did you fill that in?

Ken: The Divx Pro Codec shows that it is registered.
I used the Divx stand alone converter to convert a
.avi file to divx and it works fine, it just doesn't show up
anywhere else.

sjj1805: thanks for showing me what I should have.

I have put in a request for assistance at Divx support.

About the Ulead clean install!!!!
I downloaded the hotfix from Ulead and VS11+ seemed to install clean.
Although I never got the error it mentioned I would get a program freeze
when the "AVControl SDK" started to install.

So maybe you can pass this on for users who also have trouble
when installing from a Boxed Version Disk.

Let me know if you come up with something else.
I will also update this message when I get a fix.

I have exactly the same problem as the original poster. Installed DIVX codec, everything was normal. VS11+ doesn't show it on the list of available compression and WMP only shows the same video CODECs on the OP's list. I also installed another codec, LAGARITH, and again it doesn't show up on any list. I think this is a Windows Vista problem. I also used GSPOT to list all the audio and video codecs on my system and it shows DIVX under XVID but doesn't show LAGARITH.

Other programs , like Virtualdub, also don't recognize the codecs installed. It's like they are not actually registered and I tried to register them manually but got different errors messages. (I think I don't know how to register them, anyway)

Any help, much appreciated.
