Problem with AVCHD + MPEG Optimizer

Post by saady »

Hi,
I have VS+ 11.5 and I¡¦ve started to work with original m2ts files imported from my Sony HDR-SR8. When I create final video files without optimizer, everything¡¦s alright (sync is how it has to be) in all output formats...

But when I use optimizer to create AVCHD > H.264 (1440 x 1080, 25.00 fps) = same as source, the final video is totally corrupt. Both video and audio are¡K it¡¦s hard to describe ¡V it¡¦s just a terrible mess and occurs always when I do anything else than easy scene-by-scene editing in one video track without fades.

An example:
In audio track there is a sound ¡V in the timeline it¡¦s right under first video. In video track there are two clips: First clip has totally 10s but is cut to 5s ¡V so after 5s, the second clip should start ¡V very easy.
But the output is different: First clip has 5s, but its audio behind the cut (another 5s that shouldn¡¦t be there) continues to second clip and audio of second clip starts after the end of first clip¡¦s audio. Then the video stops and waits for the end of second clip¡¦s audio. The sound in audio track has usually right position. It¡¦s always different, it doesn¡¦t have any exact rules.

I¡¦ve been using VS for a long time and never had such problem in output. With mpeg2 the optimizer works fine. But now I go mad ¡V I can¡¦t just re-encode the whole project without optimizer in this format, it takes a lot of time and also decreases the quality of video. Help please!

I'd like to see an example of your problem, if you could, do a short example and either upload it to Veoh.com or photobucket.com, or, your choice dot com, it would be helpfull. We need a web site called "myvideoBarfedandIwannaknowwhy.com"

Since your working with small clips I would goto preferences and turn on the Proxy manager (use VS default settings).
Check under Tools-> Proxy manager and don't edit until the proxy file(s) are completely generated. There will be an icon in the thumbnail when the proxy files are generated and linked.

Sometimes when working in VS I'll be in Project Mode & not in the Clip mode. So I'll trim the clip thinking it's trimmed correctly, yet it isn't because playback is set for project mode. Just something to double check.

Here is an example of project using m2ts with two video files
- Ulead.mpg - avchd file created by VS (cut of m2ts file from cam)
- Camera.m2ts - original avchd imported from cam

These two clips don't make a sence together, it's just an example, so don't ask why there is xmas tree and then stg from school... :)
The result should be like this: Long look on xmas tree and gifts, at the end increasing sound of second scene, then cut to second scene. That's all.

So I have uploaded several files...
1) Project file and two video files above (38mb) I'm talking about - with VS 11.5+ I have created these two final videos:
2) AVCHD file created with optimizer (33mb) or its reencoded divx version (3mb) (reencoded from final file by VS)
3) AVCHD file created without optimizer (29mb) or in divx (3mb)

As you can see, 2 is somehow corrupt in sync, 3 is alright.
Please, try to do both options of rendering as me with the project in file 1 - i wanna know if somebody will have good result with optimizer.

I tried it with and also without proxy, but the result was same

saady,
I downloaded the test files and used them to simulate your problem.
Yes, the same occurs on my system.

First when editing avchd content I set my Project Settings to AVI Uncompressed Audio 48khz Stereo, 320x240 Upper_Field_First and use non-square pixel rendering.
This is when I create proxy files, then I use these project settings.

I also had VS generate proxy files for the avc/h264 videos.

As far as I can tell the first clip "ULEAD.MPG" is corrupted.
I saved your project under a different name. Then removed the audio clip & the last clip of the classroom.
Then I exported the 1st clip that I felt was corrupted by "Share-> create video file -> same as first clip -> options and turned OFF smartrender.
You must turn off smartrender with any type of corrupted video file.
After creating the new file I reloaded your original project, replaced the original ulead.mpg with my re-encoded one. Created a proxy file for that by right-clicking on it and selecting "Create Proxy File".

Now when I rendered using the Mpeg Optimizer the video played back correctly.
On my system I had a hint that the 1st video file "Ulead.mpg" was corrupted because it would pause on about 10 seconds, while the clip was actually 21 seconds.

Hope this helps, avc/h264 is not easy to edit & work with.

You're right, I tried your advice and it worked out :D I didn't expect that problem could be in the clip...

Thanks a lot, I'll try to better watch out for files :)
