MovieFactory 6 - Causes Vista Windows Media Center errors

Post by Darth Evader »

Let me start off by saying that I have created a Ghost image of my hard drive prior to MovieFactory 6 installation, so I can always restore back to the exact point before the install. I've gone through this process several times and it is 100% repeatable that MovieFactory 6 will cause this problem.

Anyway, I installed MovieFactory 6 using this process

-Install UVS11_DMF6_HotFix01_Install_Issue.exe hotfix.
-Install Ulead MovieFactory 6 into default folder location
-Install dmf6_patch_supportavchd.exe patch 1
-Install DMF6_Full_Patch2_E.exe

After rebooting, Vista Ultimate tells me that Windows Media Center has an error. Specifically:

This error prevents Windows Media Center from working. I normally use it to watch TV via my Hauppauge PVR-350 tuner.

I have the latest video drivers installed for my ATI x1950 video card and for my Hauppauge tuner card. I've also tried installing DVD MovieFactory 6 without any patches...yet I still get the same results.

Obviously, something in the DVD MovieFactory 6 install process is causing this error. Has anyone seen it before or know of a quick fix?

Fixed

After many hours of testing, I finally resolved this issue. As noted in the error log I previously posted, I found that there must have been an incompatibility issue between the file atimcenc.dll and Ulead MovieFactory 6. To fix this, I did the following.

First, I Ghosted my system back to the pre-DVD MovieFactory 6 state.

Second, I uninstalled all ATI programs and drivers. I then used Driver Cleaner Pro to remove all traces of ATI software from my system.

Third, Installed DVD MovieFactory 6 and all updates.

Fourth, installed the latest ATI drivers for my video card.

The error has not reoccurred and everything is working great.
