Cannot capture from Canon XLH1

Cannot capture from Canon XLH1
I upgraded my camera from an XL1s and decided to purchase VideoStudio version 11. Installed all the patches. See only one plug in (confirmed only one vs. multiple including HD capture plug in my version 10). My new camera - Canon XLH1 gets the capture plug in error message in version 11 and I cannot capture. I can capture in version 10 (but in 30f there is a jagged green horizontal line on top). I downloaded and installed all patches. Any help appreciated. - Steve

Have you installed the software drivers for the camera (actually Windiws should do this automatically the first time you connect the video camera).
When you have connected the video camera (can I assume that it is via FireWire?) go to IMAGING DEVICES in the DEVICE MANAGER accessed via START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM?DEVIVE MANAGER tab. Is your camera listed?
If not then that is the problem - your PC doesn't 'see' the camera.

I would first make sure you can capture standard DV by putting the HighDef Camcorder into the HD->SD mode via it's internal setup.
Then switch the cam to output a standard HDV signal.
I would also use HDVSplit to capture and see if it's your HighDef cams internal settings are correct. If HDVSplit works then probably something with VS11+ capturing module. HDVSplit captures in the TS format. VS11+ will capture in the PS format.

You do not need FFDShow, use the cams LCD screen for preview.
You only need the hdvsplit.exe program.
If HDVSplit does allow you to capture you can use the xxxx.m2t files in VS11+ no problem. Make sure to set your Project Settings EQUAL to your source footage.
When you goto create a new file use the "Share -> Create Video File -> Mpeg Optimizer", check the re-encoding setting by "Show Details", make sure they are correct and then click on "Accept" to proceed and save the new video file.
Nice camcorder.

Thanks for suggestions. Sorry I didn't provide some more details - am on XP Pro and system 'sees' camera fine, even re registered qdv.dll. Everything works without having tried beta software (HDV Split) using the HDDV capture plug in in Version 10. The problem seems to be the one size fits all plug in that is the only one available in version 11.
My msdf files are all named correctly. Installing the XP update WindowsXP-KB885222-v2-x86-ENU.exe doesn't help (file already there). Can't find a Sony directory to try those drivers (looked in driver cache and I386).
Been with VideoStudio for 3.5 years now and made 225 custom films. Had technology company prior to shooting commercially. Why would they change the driver like this to force a problem when I am trying to connect a $9,000 Canon? I have put in for a refund and will use version 10 unless somebody else can help steer me to version 11 fix. Thanks everyone for help. If I have time I will continue to fiddle with HDVSplit.

True it may install a version of DirectX, however unless Corel released a version after November, they will not have the most current. Unless I've been reading things wrong (which is very possible), the Nov release has been the one fixing some of these problems.

No FCP for me
I'm not a Mac user. Most everything I shot coming out of my XL1s needed zero tweaking. The killer feature is the multi-trim. I can buzz thru editing using this vs. Pinnacle or Vegas. FCP was overkill as I dump to .avi and cut in Windows Media Encoder. The picture looks great and not sure what the gain would be with FCP as tens of thousands of customers have never complained. So yes, a $9k camera downloads to $100 software lol. Also, the optimzation for dual core really made things faster for rendering.

thanks vidoman
glad you are keen on the XLH1. I shot for 3 years with an XL1s and was overdue for the upgrade. Since I started using VideoStudio back about version 6 when there was no post processing it forced me to get the film correct right out of the camera. I look at the old stuff and cringe but chaulk it up to learning experience. Now they have put in color editing and stuff but I have never had to use it. I'm hoping things work out as well with new camera so no loaner available lol.
