DVD MF 6+ Aspect ratio 16:9 distorts photos on HD Slideshow

Post by jimbra »

Hello,

This is my first post here and hope it will be considered in earnest.

Recently we downloaded U-leads Trial version of U-lead DVD Movie factory 6 Plus and we are seriously considering this software for purchase.

First of all may I congratulate U-lead on this product. As a very experienced Adobe Premier and Photo shop user over the last decade. I find U-lead's DVD Movie Factory 6+ has an excellent user interface with very fast asset imports into the program. The ease at which the user can import and quickly negotiate files and utilize them within the program is quite fantastic. I am very impressed and may I express KUDOS to the software development team WELL DONE.

Now to the issue,

Upon creating our first Photo Slideshow HD DVD with Movie Factory 6+ (trial version) the software preformed "flawlessly¡¨ until we played the created DVD on a 720p native, 1080i LCD.

This may be a bug in the program and I will try to explain the problem in a understandable fashion,

1. When playing the created HD DVD in 16:9 ratios. Images that are either rotated to a vertical view, that were originally captured (photographed) in a horizontal view or captured in a vertical view. Appear distorted stretching the image horizontally from side to side. In example a photograph of my 110 lb wife appeared as if she was 175 lbs. Not Good.

2. When changing the aspect ratio on the LCD to 4:3 the images return to normal while playing the 16:9 DVD created with DVD MF 6+.

3. Having gone through the settings in this program I can not see where an error was made. Did I miss a setting?

I hope this makes sense.

Sincerely,

J Bradley

Correct me if I'm wrong but your original source pictures are in 4:3 format. After editing them MF6+ is resizing them to 16:9 aspect ratio.

I know usually when using 4:3 source pictures in a 16:9 slideshow project MF does not resize the pictures to 16:9, you still have the 2 blacks bars on the left & right edges of the 16:9 screen and the photo is proportionally correct. .
Because you are performing editing MF is converting the source objects to it's MF6+ Project Settings (Project Settings are found under the GEAR Icon, you can customize them).

I think if you edited & rotated the pictures in another program before using them in a slideshow they will be overlayed correctly into the HighDef 16:9 Screen.

I can also do this wil videos. If I use 4:3 source videos in a 16:9 project they are overlayed correctly when exporting AND using SmartRender..
But if I edit them or manually export a customized configuration they are re-sized to 16:9 aspect ratio.
I think the answer is to rotate them in a photo editor.
