Hi,
I record something on a DVD using a DVD-Recorder (a LG LRA-750). The disk is a DVD-RW, and it is formatted as DVD-VR.
I can import it in VideoStudio 10+ without any problem. Once imported, I just trim the video a bit, no special effect or any other things. A simple trim of a MPEG clip.
When I use the Create Disc function, I set the same properties as the MPEG file (bit rate, aspect ration, resolution, dolby, etc.). Of course, I check the "Do not convert compliant MPEG files", but when I click th "Burn" button, it takes very long time to create the disc image. Like if SmartRender was not doing is job.
My video clip should be DVD compatible, it comes from a DVD!!
What can I do?
Thank you.

Test clip
I suggest you experiment with a short clip - it's much easier to sort out your workflow that way.
First of all, insert some of your footage onto the timeline, and trim it to, say, a minute in length.
Make sure that in "File>Preferences" you have the "Show message when inserting first video clip into the Timeline" box checked.
When you insert the video, you should be prompted by a dialogue box giving you the option to set the project properties to match those of the first clip.
You should then do a test render to mpeg-2, using "Share>Create Video File". You should select either "Same as project settings" or "Same as first video clip" and the file should then be smart rendered. You'll know that smart render is happening if the preview window stays black during the render. Otherwise, it's re-encoding the clip - and the time it takes to do it will also be a dead give-away.
Once you manage to get smart render to work on your test clip, you can move on to the full project - and I would suggest you follow the suggested workflow, whereby you create a single large DVD compatible mpeg-2 from your project which you then insert in the "Share>Create Disc" step in a new, blank project which you use to actually author the DVD (i.e. create your menus and chapters etc)

To add to the above post you should always (usually) match your project settings to the source footage.
You can also goto "Share -> Mpeg Optimizer", then show details and ACCEPT the details. The Mpeg Optimizer will display any video that needs to be re-encoded. You will see smart-render work when the new file is being created.
Originally you should be importing your dvd-rw recorded in the -VR mode using the import dvd/-vr disk function and not inserting the file directly into the timeline by renaming the extension.

Hi,
Thank you for your help, It worked: generate a mpeg file, open the create disc wizard, remove the project's video and insert the generated mpeg file...
However, to generate the MPEG file, I had to use VideoStudio 11.5 +, because when I try to do it with VS10+, it crash at some point in the process. (But I can create the disc in VS10+ using the MPEG generated by VS11.5+)
Looks like I will have to update to VS11.5+...
