vfx32.dll is missing now?

Post by mg92865 »

I am reinstalling MSP 7 after 1 year of non use. MSP 7 install, but when I upgrade with the patch3 the program states that vfx32.dll is missing and suggests I reinstall. My question: reinstall the whole program, only the patch, or both? Do I need to remove anything?

No entries on this subject were found in the knowledge base, so I appreciate any suggestions or answers on this topic.

If I read the installation instructions correctly, SP3 contains everything that SP1 and 2 contain, so you should not need to install them.

vfx32.dllmissing

Post by mg92865 »

Yes, thats what I thought. So what is installed is the original version, msp7 and servicepack3. But after this upgrade, the program will not run, and IT suggests somewhat unclearly to reinstall, apparently to try to reinstall vfx32.dll.

So I am still in search of more complete directions on this.

Thanks thou

Since we know nothing about your system, I will need to ask. Do you run, by any chance, a VISTA OS?

vfx32.dll followup Running on Windows XP sp2

Post by mg92865 »

I am running an intel board with a Windows XP SP2. Nothing fancy, and all other apps have installed and run without problems.

Does anyone know if VFX32.dll is related to Ulead software, or it is a generic DLL that I might install outside of the installer disk?

Thank you,

The VFX32.dll file is associated with Ulead products. I done a system search and it is located only under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11 (whatever Ulead Program you have, will have this DLL file). It is used for the Transition effects.

Code: Select all

Description: Tranistion Effect Shared DLL
Company: Intervideo Digital Technology Corporation
File Version: 8.0.0.0
Internal Name: VFX
Language: English (United States)
Original File name: VFX.DLL
Product Name: Ulead VideoStudio
Product Version: 8.0.0.0

Size: 40.4 KB (41,456 bytes)

I noticed a slight difference in file sizes, the one for MSP8 is 68.0 KB (69,632 bytes)

I don't have MSP7 FULL, just the VE edition, and I don't have it installed. You might try searching your install disc or try unpacking the ESD file, and searching for the DLL file. Then copy it to the directory where you have MSP7 installed.
I don't think the DLL file for version 8 will work with 7.

I have 12 instances of vfx32.dll on this computer.
44.0 KB (45,056 bytes) 6.0.0.0 on photo explorer 8.6
52.0 KB (53,248 bytes) 7.0.0.1 on mf3disccreator
52.0 KB (53,248 bytes) 2.0.0.0 on DVD Workshop2
68.0 KB (69,632 bytes) 8.0.0.0 on MediaStudio Pro 8
88.0 KB (90,112 bytes) 4.0.0.0 on MediaStudio Pro/ddr and MSP/DVD authoring
28.0 KB (28,672 bytes) 5.0.5.0 on PhotoImpact/AnyGif
(the rest are duplicates on another boot system)

Personally, I think it is scandalous that Ulead should use the same filename but different files, even with different version numbers, on different applications. It is a recipe for potential disaster and is the height of bad programming, along with common files.
