Competition Entry 07: Torquay

Post by KugarWeb »

Hi there,

Well I thought with this number of great prizes I had to enter! Videos so far are looking great and been very impressed and interested in each of them - I'm not sure if mine touches base with theirs if I'm honest but I thought I might as well give it a go.

All photos and video were taken by myself using my Sony P100 Digital Camera and HDR-HC1 Camcorder, which was a lot of fun and gave me a real insight into what really happens during different parts of the day, something I rarely experience as I'm now working away at University most of the time.

There is one image which isn't mine (Google Map) although I have referenced this when it appears. :)

Still, it was good fun to do and I thought I might as well mix in some library shots I took of the Pedal Car Grand Prix, a local event organised by the Round Table of the town and involves local businesses.

Fingers crossed I win something but of course good luck to all of the other entries! :)

(One annoyance with this is that YouTube cut off part of my Ulead Videostudio banner which looks like it only appears as 2 seconds, but is 4 seconds long in my VS file) :(

Andrew.

I've spent so many holiday abroad abroad this last few years that I had forgotten how beautiful some of our own coastline is. I can see myself driving down to Torquay in the summer.

Excellent video and gives a lot of information about Torquay.
This video would do the English Tourist Bord proud.

Well done and good luck in the competition.

Good on ya Andrew....

I liked the video very much and you live in a nice part of the world by the looks of things.

Loved the Pedal Car Grand Prix...what a cracka!

Anyone would be silly not to go in the comp with so many prizes and almost a guarantee of winning something.

all the bet to you in the comp.

Cheers

Spent many holidays on the English Riveira and Torquay is one of my husbands favourite places. This video shows it off, even some places I've not seen.

Good luck

I loved the different kind of music all the time. And the grand prix was hilarious.

You have palm trees in several places even up the west coast of Scotland, I think up to Oban.

This is Plockton, on the mainland opposite the Isle of Skye.

There are a few places in Britain with palm trees, mostly around Devon and Cornwall but there are a few other places including the Isle of Mann and a few of the Scottish Islands.

It is something to do with the Gulf Stream bringing warmer weather up the West Coast. To make up for their luck those on the East Coast get the cold winds and water come downwards from the Arctic Region. Even on a nice hot summer day the sea on the East coast tends to be cold.

You don't get many palm trees inland.

I am defending palm trees inland. I live approx 70 miles from the east coast and in my vicinity there are quite a few houses with palm trees growing in their garden. You can buy them in garden centres in West Yorkshire and granted they were probably grown in a greenhouse they are surviving very well in people's gardens despite the colder climate. Even so we in Leeds have not had bad winters for a while even if it has been colder than in the past.

Three cheers for palm trees :P

Well I never thought my video would create a debate about palm trees

It's surprising how many people around here are able to grow them in their own gardens frankly especially because we don't have very good soil on this estate and also because of the colder months, but they seem to thrive!

I've just joined this forum and Torquay is one of my favourite places on the English Riviera. It reminds me of holidays as a teenager with my mates.
