C drive memory

Post by tina »

I have been using Ulead Videostudio 8 to create my DVD's. I am trying to burn a current project onto DVD, but it is telling me that I do not have enough space on my C drive. How do I delete previous projects from the memory, to create more space. Each time I have burned a project on to a DVD, the available memory has reduced dramatically. It is telling me that I need 5.0 GB to burn but with only 4.4 GB available. I am at a loss how to do it
Thanks, any help would be great

Hi,

There is more than one technique, some software helps, but it is unnecessary.

You will have to know where the files are.

In the last window of the burn, this screen:

gives you a hint to where extra folders of content are located.

You can also right click on C:\ drive and check Properties.

Then "Clean up" used space.

Hope this helps.

Good advice from Mike.

Keep in mind that these hard drives we have nowadays that are 100 gig plus take a LONG time to defrag (in disk cleanup)

The last time I did it, I let it run over night.

That really depends on a lot of things. The disk cleanup can take a very long time if you have a machine that's been running the same OS install for a while or it's getting to be around 1 to 3 months from a fresh install (including brand new). Most of that time is taken up by the compress old files option. Once you get over the initial compression of files you don't use after the first few months in general the disk cleanup should speed up quite a bit. Only a few minutes unless your constantly installing new programs that won't get used a lot.

The same for the defragmenter, if you keep up with it every month it's very fast unless you have a large file such as a video that needs to be defragged or you have installed, uninstalled, copied, or resaved a large quantity of files.

And there's also the machine itself...

All true.

I don't do disk clean up nearly often enough. I had a LOT of defrag issues because I was copying a LOT of DVDs using DVD shrink.

Tina, I don't mean to be funny or a wise-guy but are you sure you mean hard drive space and not the available space on the blank DVD? From the GB size you indicated it sounds more like insufficient DVD disc space than hard drive space.

 Good spot there Erock, that's a good possibility. She does state space on drive C but perhaps she is confusing the two.
