Doesn't read the drive

Post by Wasser1989 »

Video Studio 10.
When I try to burn a DVD, the only options given to me are to save the folders or an image, because Ulead doesn't seem to read my drive. In this way, I'm not allowed to choose "burn to disc".
Any ideas?

What is the make/model of your drvie? Is it a DVD burner or just a DVD ROM (player).

You need to provide more information for us to work with. I've went back to your previous 4 posts, to try and garner this. One thing that helps is to please complete your System Information in your profile. Clicking on this button -->Image will take you to a short tutorial, explaining how to find and complete that information. This way it will always be available, and will save you from retyping it in the future.

NOTE
Do you have Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite or Nero's InCD installed? These have packet writing utilities, which allow you to drag-n-drop files to your burner, as if it were a hard-drive. Once you have enough files accumulated you can burn them to disk. These packet writing utilities tend to hi-jack DVD burners, and not let other programs, like VS access them.

With Roxio EMC, you can internally disable it, however with Nero's InCD, you must un-install it, using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs.

Sorry for all the inconvenients I'm giving...
However, I managed to update my personal infos:

Operating System: Microdoft Windows XP Home Edition
Motherboard: ECS P4S5A/DX+ 1.0
Graphic Card: Hercules 3D Prophet 9000/9000 Pro Series
Sound Card: C-Media Wave Device
Processor: Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40 GHz
Hard Disk Drive: 74.46 GB
Memory: 256 MB

And I do have Nero installed, though I don't have "Nero In CD's", the one you asked about...is it the same thing?
My drive is a DVD Burner, TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-W162C...

Yes Nero InCD is the one I was referring to.

Does your WinXP recognize your DVD drive as a DVD burner/player, or are you having problems similar to others, with XP and that model of DVD burner?

Before VS can see and use a DVD burner the OS must see it and provide access to it.

Next question is do you have the full version of VS10/VS10+ or an SE or VE version?

Most of the SE, Special or what we call Simple Edition versions allow burning to DVD, however the VE, Video Edition will not allow creating MPEG-2 files needed for burning DVDs, and will not allow access to DVD burners. These SE and VE editions generally come bunded with hardware, or are provided in magazines. There intention is to give you a taste of the program and get you to purchase the full versions.

Well, I've been creating a lot of DVDs without problems through Nero Burning Rom, so I think Windows recognises my burner...
And yes, I do have Ulead VideoStudio Plus.

Just burn with Nero then

Whatever the glitch is, it shouldn't inconvenience you too much. I prefer to output from VS to an ISO file and then use one of the Nero components to burn the DVD. (in my case I use CD DVD Speed, part of the Nero toolkit, that shows the actual burn speed as it progresses)

Many others swear by IMG Burn, a freeware image burning utility with some handy features.

I do think that the most likely cause of the glitch is some packet writing software on your pc.

Even though I don't use VS, I use MSP 8. I still do what 2Dogs suggested. I usually burn to ISO file from MSP and then use NERO to burn my copies from that.

I also agree that there is either some type of packet writing software blocking access to your burner or the burner has failed. If it still burns from other software, do as many of us do and use different software to burn your ISO images
