Hi All,
It appears my equipment is not able to handle a short movie I created. I was able to create the movie with music including still pictures. When I tried to make a DVD, I keep getting the message “insufficient memory.” Also a C+++ error message warning that the program will be terminated. My equipment includes 17 GB of hard drive and 240 MB of Ram.
Two questions:
- Can I use a flush drive to copy my movie file and sources (footage) and complete the process in another computer (one with more RAM)?.
- I am getting serious about shooting and editing short video documentaries:
What computer equipment do I need??
Thanks a bunch!

Are you correct in saying 17 gig and 240Mb RAM? With that system, you don't have enough RAM to run WinXP all by itself. Then 17 gig for video editing, nope, not close.
Generally we would ask for you to complete your System Information in your Profile, by clicking the Profile button found at the top of the webpages. However with just what you have provided reveals that your system is not suited for video editing.
IF you'll click the "System" button, at the bottom of my post, and have a look at my system specs. It is on the low-end of the scale for what most are running today.
I can appreciate budget constraints, but Tier-1 (HP, Dell, Sony, ect ) prices have dropped dramatically. I just purchased a HP laptop that is more powerful than my desktop, which I purchased almost 5 yrs ago, for 1/4th the cost of my desktop. The laptop does not have the storage space, but that's corrected with an external hard-drive.
So rather than spend money on RAM, which will not help you much, I would invest in a good system.
DV (avi) video files weigh in at 13gig per hour of video, to just store the original captured video file. Add to that, the space needed by a video editing program, to work on your project, which is easily 2x the file size. So you would need at least 26gig of free space on a HDD to work on a 1 hr video file.
