Problem with VideoStudio 7 SE Basic and capturing from TV
Good evening everybody and Merry Xmas!!! I can capture video from my video cam no problem, but then when I unplug the cam cables and plug RCA into HDTV's Video in, I don't see or hear anything. Please help, I'm a rookie at this, God bless!

Merry Christmas, and welcome to the forums,
So are you having problems with not being able to view a video from your camcorder on your HDTV?
We need more information to help you. For example;
What is the make/model of your camcorder?
If that's not the case, then are you connecting your PC, a VCR, or some other device to your TV to view your video?

I'm trying to connect my TV out straight to my 2820 external usb device. Not sure if this is something that can be done or not, reason I thought it could be done was that when I looked in the software capture's options, I could see some settings there for the TV.
I saw in other posts that you could capture from TV if you use your camcorder in between the TV and your PC (or a VCR). This is not the case, I have an older model of a 8mm, which only has one connector, the one I use to hook up to the 2820.
If I hook up the camcorder to the 2820, I can capture from it no problem, but what I'm trying to do is capture straight from the TV.
THANKS.

You're correct, that with your particular camcorder you can not. The camcorder needs to have what's called Pass-through capability. It will take a signal, generally an analog signal, convert it to digital, and pass it on to the Firewire (Sony calls it an i-Link, or properly an IEEE-1394), which is connected to your PC.
Some camcorders have several ports, such as S-Video, RCA Composite, and AV. However most of these are Output only, meant to be used for viewing what's recorded on the tape, through a TV.

I don't know what a 2820 is, but I assume it's an analog video capture device.and plug RCA into HDTV's Video in... TV out straight to my 2820 external usb device... I'm trying to do is capture straight from the TV.
You need to connect to the TVs video-OUT, rather than video-IN... The analog signal comes out of the TV and into the capture device. The digital signal comes out of the capture device and into your computer's USB port.
If you can capture from your analog camera, you should be able to use the same set-up to capture from your TV's analog output.
