How remote control buttons will function in VCD, SVCD, DVD

Using (v 4.0.0.1 download edition) My question is related to televsion dvd players and what buttons work with VCD and DVD shows. I've tried my discs on various brands of dvd players.

It seems that some buttons on tv dvd player's remote control don't function with VCD or DVD. For example when trying to start a particular slideshow from the main menu I have to type a number on the remote and cannot use the arrow and enter keys to select a show to play like I could with a commercially produced disc. Also, the chapter buttons allow you to quickly change between photos but the pause button doesn't work in VCD. Is there a chart that indicates in which format which button will work in each format?

Also, can I create a dvd quality show but burn it to a cd? I would prefer to do this because cd's burn much faster, and are cheaper and my shows don't have that many photos.
