Hi,
I've had a problem with DMF 5 that I can't work out and was wondering if anyone can help me - whether it's some sort of setting.
I have an issue with the menus, I take a standard template, and modify it to put in a background, music etc... do all the text and layout the thumbnails etc... but when it renders, on the TV screen, all the text and the image quality on it is for some reason incredibly really sharp and grainy, like it's been put through some unsharp mask.
At first I thought it was my own doing, using my own photo images as a background, but my last few tests, I used the supplied sample background JPG's and the same thing occurred. The text fonts are standard windows ones, the layouts, buttons and frames are all Ulead supplied ones.
Only when it transitions (menu in/out), can you see what you expect to see... Would changing the 'Render Quality' in the setting do anything (Best/Good)?
I am using PAL WS... let me know if there's anything else I need to detail to help solve this issue.
DMF5 Plus - Sharp grainy menu display issue
Example
I have successfully tested this on multiple computers with different configurations and can confirm this problem exists out of the box.
I have also tried different resolution background images, and they present the same issue.
The issue is seen here:

(Ignore the distorted ratio this is expected between PAL and NTSC, the issue is the grainy/sharpness caused by resampling in the Ulead DVD MF5+ product).
1. The images are 300% screen captures using Ulead DVD Player taking the DVD screen captures. (No compression, BMP)
2. The pictures are presented in the native NTSC resolution 720x480, and PAL 720x576 format.
3. Very clearly, you can see that the Test NTSC¡¦s image is muted and less sharp. The Test PAL one is incredibly sharp.
When presented at their native resolution on a TV screen - the NTSC is presented with no display issues. The PAL one is affected by overt sharpness. This has become increasingly apparent and more obvious when displayed on large 42" and above screen LCD and Plasma TV's.
Every video I have produced with a menu in PAL format with this program has been incredibly sharp. I have used different computers too.
I raised this with support and they were unable to replicate. When I presented them with my document of test findings including the sample unaltered files and ask them to re-test in PAL, they did not respond and I left it for over a month hoping they would attend/fix this issue. Just recently, they said they are not able to provide any time frame for a fix (and closed my ticket). I raised another ticket asking them to keep me updated and they said, no one is looking at it (and closed my ticket).
As far as I know, Ulead DVD MF5+ is still a supported product!
The conclusion is that the encoding algorithm for the presentation of the PAL menu has not been done correctly.
Here in Australia, no one uses NTSC - the standard is PAL.
If anyone can suggest a fix to this, it would be most appreciated.
