And it should be under the general AVI rubric, and not mpeg...

Sjj-Thanks for your help. I guess I am a little frustrated at this point. I have installed a couple of the codecs and they still don't show up in the [compression] tab. Mjpeg compression does show up when i choose *.avi in the file type menu. Is that what i need to select?

FWIW-I am almost to the point of just copying the pics onto the sd card and letting it play. they will still be pleased.

should it take a really long time to render? I have a pretty souped up box and 10 minutes later, i am only 22% done.

Yes, that is the one.

That is what I would do, the Digital Photo Frame is designed to display the pictures off the SD card with as little fuss as possible - and yes I think your parents will be pleased with them.

Have a happy Christmas and it will be nice to have some feed back from you about what your parents thought of your gift.

The frame went over very well. Probably the best gift in several years. My mother actually sorta understood that you take your card from your digital camera and put it in the box. I even had here do it. My father says "that is so cool!, I have never seen anything like it." Sheltered people from the woods of MI. I will be buying them an additional card so that we can swop abck and forth.

thanks everyone for the help.

PS the new codec worked for the frame. I didn't use it for the photos b/c the quality was really grainy and crappy.

They must have really loved the running water and indoor plumbing.
