Digital frame with Video

Digital frame with Video
I bought my parents one of the digital frames for Christmas. i am using Video studio 10+ to convert pictures to a video, then I am using pan and zoom to enhance the pictures. I assumed the frame would take an mpg, alas, no!
Now that I looked at the manual, the frame manufacturer says it will only accept jpeg video files. So my question is can I produce these jpegs from VideoStudio. If not does anyone know of a software that will convert from mpg to jpeg? or .avi to jpeg?

Can you give us a link to the frame that you bought so we can see the specs. It would provide more info so we can help you out.

Silly me.
I read the manual that came with the Frame. Now I looked at the manual online and it says:
"Watching a Video
You can watch video files on your Digital Photo Frame as well. It supports the Motion JPEG (AVI) video format used by most digital cameras.
Note: The Digital Photo Frame can only play the 352*288 CIF video format."
So is this a standard format for Visual Studio?

No it is a somewhat older format which preceded DV/AVI. It still gives very good quality but large files. You have to install the MJPEG codec on your computer for VS to see it and use it. Presumably, though, there was an installation disc which came with the frame, and that should contain the codec.

I've bought a few of those as presents also.
There is no need to create a slide show video - in fact if that is what you want to do then you don't want a digital photo frame but instead you need a portable DVD player.
The Digital Photo Frame will play your photo's in a variety of way's.
These would include things like change the picture once a hour or once every 15 minutes, or every 5 seconds - you dictate the slide duration.
You should also be able to specify how a picture changes from one to another such as fade in/out.
Like everything else you get what you pay for so the cheaper units will have less options than the more expensive ones which may even include the ability to play sound. Personally I would prefer a photo frame to have no sound - otherwise it ceases to be a "Photo Frame" and instead becomes more like a portable DVD player.
If you still want to pursue watching a video on the photo frame then you can download the mjpeg codec from the internet

I agree with you. But the ease of use is of high importance when dealing with technologically inept parents that live 600 miles away.
I am making the video of all the pictures b/c I told them I would send them videos of the grandkids 3-4 times per year and I haven't and I am feeling guilty.
The thought of a portable dvd player would really stree them out. I can explain this thing to them and show them how to plug the sd card in and bingo pictures play.

If they have email - just upload your videos onto the internet and send them a link to click!

Have no clue if this service is available in your area, but, here, in the USA, they offer a service that is computer independent. In other words, you don't need a computer to recieve email. It's a hardware device you plug into your phone jack and it is capable of printing email and pictures. The end user needs to know nothing about email, or the internet, or anything technical. Just plug and play. (basically it's a printer) I _think_ it's offered by HP, but, don't really know..

Just had a PM off the OP who mistakenly thought I was attacking him for buying a Photo Frame.
Not so in fact if you read my opening remark I have bought a few myself for Christmas presents.
What I am suggesting when mentioning the existence of
You Tube

Google Video
is that these FREE services will enable you to quickly upload a family video onto the internet and then you can simply send friends/relatives a link to view them. Quick and cheap method of sharing your videos.
You can also do this with various online photo album services such as the one I have recently begun using Picaso (Google)
These sites are there to complement Photo frames, DVD discs and other forms of sharing memories, they are not replacements.
Hope this clears up any misunderstanding by the OP.

Providing you have downloaded and installed the codec from one of the links you found from that Google Search, you should now find that VideoStudio has added it to the list of available output formats.
On the [Share] Tab when you then select [Create Video] you will need to select the custom format and then go to the compression tab.
If you are going to use the format on a regular basis then you can create an entry in the output types list by clicking on
Tools | Make Movie Manager.
