pinpointing the problem?

Post by lakewud »

Just an aside to my recent out of sync and juddery problems when it comes to burning my dvd project.

I noticed that when i burn ( create disk ) having my project in the timeline and up pops the next screen, to create chapters etc, then forwarding through this the sound isnt out of sync...Whereas when i instead import the saved project ( nothing in the timeline ) pressing the *VSP tab..then when i quickly come to scan through it - to create chapters - the sound is out of sync.

SO, my question is....why would my saved one be out of sync whereas when i place the same saved project onto my timeline and create disk...it isnt?

Just asking, as maybe..just maybe...someone out there ( usually only two of you respond!! ) could explain what i may of done wrong when editing it along the way..and how i could correct..and more importantly..it might explain why the film in parts seems a little...juddery.

Perhaps you could add your input file properties, the project settings and your output settings.
Do you only have the one hard drive?
Is it partitioned?

Is it juddery on the timeline? as a saved file when played on your pc? What sort of file? What player? On a dvd played thorugh your tv?

Skier -

Project prop's below...yes i know about the dv 1 dv2...so unless that really is the only problem with it?

PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
PCM, 32.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

Ticking smartproxy on / off?

Did burn a few copies no probs with the burning.....BUT, recently been trying to burn some more and the last 3 occassions..have all stuck on me an hour or so into the burn!!! Usually on the coverting titles sections...

Any reasons why? all of a sudden..ok was never happy with the result but at least it burnt.....!!!

You are also missing the point that after editing your project, and before ever getting anywhere near the burning engine, our recommended workflow is to first render your project to a DVD compatible mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD). Then you close the project to empty the timeline. Then you open the burning module (Share > Create Disc > DVD) and use the *Add Media* button to insert your new mpeg-2. In other words, you avoid the Add VSP button altogether.

And one of the principal reasons this workflow was developed was because people like you ran into problems -- even if not all the time -- if you did in fact insert a project file into the burning module. Moreover, out of sync video and audio was a common result.

So why don't you give our workflow a go? We are not saying it is the only way to go. Just that it minimises the chances of anything going wrong in the burning module when you throw together the difficult task of actually converting a project to mepg-2, with the equally complex tasks of converting your menu, multiplexing the video and audio and actually burning the disc, and expecting your computer can handle it all on the fly.

More to the point, you don't really save any time, as the conversion has to occur and will take the same amount of time as when you do it as a separate step... And our way will also allow you to see if there is any OOS in the mpeg-2 before you ever commit it to burning...

PCM, 32.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

This bit is odd, 12 bit is normally 32KHz with 16 bit being 48KHz.

Are the settings you've given the input file, project and output file settings? Because making a dvd entails a totally different set.

What about answers to the rest of the questions?
