Microphone not recognised?

Microphone not recognised?
When I finish my edit on the timeline of VS11 and I click on Record Voice to add a 'voiceover', I get a message 'Device Error, cannot open the wave in device'. I have two microphones that I can use - one is a 'creative' desk mike which works with a language program, and the other is 'Logitech Clear Chat - headset and microphone which I bought specifically to use with VS11 and with Skype. What is the cause of this and how can it be remedied? All other functions seem to be ok.

Go into the Windows Control Panel and open up "Sounds and Audio Devices." Click on the Audio tab and make sure that the default playback device is correct. You should select the driver for your soundcard in this setting.
The problem is often caused by some other program or sound driver installing its own default playback device.
