VS11+ Edit DVR-MS Files (no sound)

Post by rduroc »

I installed VS11+ upgrade today and having problems editing/previewing dvr-ms files. I don't have any sound. The files are ok as I can watch them in windows media center and Win DVD8. Also, VS11+ seems really unstable with the dvr-ms files and locks up. Can anyone offer any advise about the lack of sound? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums,

DVR-MS is a proprietary format created by the developer of MS Windows Media Center Television Engine. There have been others that have had problems getting this format to work with either VS10 or VS11. You can read more about DVR-MS here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVR-MS

You might try converting, using a conversion program SUPER. It can convert DivX, Xvid or even MPEG4 files. or SVCD 2 DVD MPEG, to a format (MPEG-2) that VS can handle.

On the Wikipedia site there are other converters such as VLC, Nvidia's Pure Video Decoder, that will also convert this format for editing.

With video editing, when you're dealing with a proprietary format, it is touch and go, editing it, even though VS will accept this format, it's just not that simple.
