You're not going to have AVI as an option with Share>Create Disc. These are templates for creating DVDs, and other than a DivX disc, they need to be MPEG-2.
The other place Ken was pointing out would be Share>Create Video File/Custom. You can opt for either MPEG or AVI. The DivX codec should appear as an option, on the AVI tab, Compression.
I've recently had an upgrade notice to the DivX6.8, and upon installing on my Vista machine, it appeared as one of the options in VS.
I'm wondering if that Vista Codec pack may have caused some issues on your system. I done some quick reading on it. It depends on where you obtained it, but it seems as though some are thrown together by a person that knows nothing more than click and hope something works... Whoa.. I certainly wouldn't download anything from somone like that.
Codec packs as such most likely will conflict with each other, not to mention what you already have installed on your system. I've always stayed away from any and all codec packs. Sorry I don't know how to check and make sure you have rid your system of any nasty remnants of these packs. Hopefully someone will be able to help you further..

the same problems
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the UVS 11.5, codecs: Dvix, Indeo and I cannot see them. But the funny thing is that I can see all the options in My other user accout that does not have administrator priviliges. I think that is a registry that is blocking the view of the differents codecs in my administrator account. Also when I tried uninstall the indeo codecs it pops that there are some files in system32 that could not been removed because these files only the uninstaller software can remove them. I do not know what is happening.
Please help....
