MF5 Mini DV to DVD Video Quality

Post by Cool Hand »

I Have Ulead DVD Movie Factory For Tosuiba 5.51.0119.0 SE002. The Ulead software is installed on a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7444, with 2 GB of ram, 160GB of free disc space, and ATI Radon Graqphics. I seem to have several problems:

1. I captured 54 minutes of video from a miniDV movie camera and burned a DVD to find that the file was only 612 Mb, the video quality was really bad. I assume this because the format was MPEG. So, I tried to change the format to DVD-HQ or DVD GQ or DVD SP, or LP or EP in the format drop down box of the "Capture" screen. For each format I got the message: "This format template is not supported. It will use the default format" and the selection reverted to MPEG. So -- how do I fill up a DVD with 54 minutes of video, and get good video? (Note, I have copied with Pinacle Studio on another computer and gotten great video results. )

2. When I click on the help icon in the Ulead screen, I do not get on the web for web based help. I can only get there by going through www.ulead.com

The following is just complaining, but I'd appreciate comments:

3. I tried to get Correl on line help a few days ago, and registered, filled in all the blanks, typed in my problem, pushed the "suggested response" button, and the system sat there untill it timed out, and my request was gone.

4. Yesterday I called the Ulead tech support line, and did talk to a person. However, that person said that the only support for OEM software such as this is by email. I explained that I tried this and it did not work, but no further help was given, other than to uninstall and reinstall, which of course is not possible, since I do not have the Ulead disc -- the program was installed on the computer when I bought it.

5. So, I tried email support again -- got through, and was told that the OEM versions of software are not supported by email, but only on the users forum -- here.

6. Last night I registered on this user forum, received the confirming email, and this morning, could not log on. So -- I registered again -- and here I am.

So -- at this point, I'm pretty frustrated at the time and effort put in. I look forward to some of you kind souls in etherland coming forth with your expertise and knowledge and giving some direction that I will be able to understanad, use, and accomplish my simple project. Thanks in advance.

There are similar problems with the bundled DMF5... for Canon. Corel (which acquired Ulead) has issued a patch for the Canon problem. However I've been trying to locate one for Toshiba, and can not. I've looked all over Toshiba's website and Corel's.

Here's a link to the Canon fix: http://www.ulead.com.tw/Ulead/Survey/ca ... pg=6&fs=us

Mini DV to DVD Poor Video Quality

Videoman -- thanks very much for your inputs. I've looked at both links, and neither seems to address the issue. The Canon fix was interesting, as I have a Canon videocam. However, the version the fix applied to was not mine.

If no one has any other ideas, I suppose bundled software is just not the solution. I purchased Pinacle Studeo Version 11, and my next move is to install that and see how that works. Version 9 worked pretty well for me on my desk top, except VERRRY slow at rendering -- sometimes hanging up.

Any further inputs would be appreciated.
