I'm looking for suggestions for a good microphone for the laptop for recording audio in VS. The one I have gives very modest quality for voice recording.

FWIW, I have an excellent Labtec one which gives very good results. It cost a fair amount when I bought it. But I have to add that I also have extremely good results from a headset/mic combo which I bought at an electronics shop for $15, and it is a no-name variety from China... In brief my message is that you will get a million different responses to a question like this, and really you will probably be no nearer a good answer because some things will just work better with your particular computer set-up -- though they may not work wonderfully on someone else's...
