I have a main menu with 8 titles, each of which goes to a small video clip.
I started with one of the standard Text menus (one that had 5 Text lines), and added another 3 using PhotoImpact.
This all worked well, but was a bit crowded, so I moved lines 5 to 8 to the right on the menu to give me what is in essence 2 columns with 4 rows each.
My problem now is that when I use the template in VideoStudio, the left/right/up/down buttons on the remote control don't jump to the expected menu item.
For example, press 'right' and you would expect it to go to button 5, which is alongside 1. Instead it goes to 6. Press 'Up' on 8 and it goes to 7, but up on 7 goes to 1!!!
Is there anyway that you can control what Video Studio assigns to each button? Is there an algorithm that I should bear in mind when creating complex menus?
I'm trying MenuEdit as a workaround at the moment, but this is time-consuming as I have to redo it each time I rebuild the DVD (happening a lot at the moment as people keep asking for changes!!!)
How do you control button jumped with remote control?

You are on the right track, there is no means of controlling which is the next selected item on a DVD menu when pushing the up/down/left/right on the DVD remote using "Ulead" software. This is why I burn to a hard drive folder and then tweak the menus with MenuEdit.
You can also achieve this with the FREE program PGCEdit.

Editing VOB
Thanks for the info, and the additional link.
I will investigate further.
On a linked matter...
The main menu now goes to 2 pages (I now have 12 small, independent video clips).
Videos 10, 11 and 12 each have 4 chapters.
When playing them, if they run to the end they go back to the main menu (as they should), but they go back to page 1, rather than page 2 from where they were initiated.
Do you know how to edit the commands to make them go back to main menu page 2 instead?
(If I hit 'menu' on the remote just before they stop playing then it does go to page 2).

It would be complicated to try and work out the PGC (Program chain) required to do this. Never attempted that myself because most of my DVD Menus are created with DVD Workshop 2 which has far more control than VideoStudio/MovieFactory.
If you really want to know the answer to that one your best bet would be PGCEdit rather than MenuEdit and if you check the link I ghave earlier it will lead to several user guides written by various users.

An authoring program will handle this kind of stuff easily. Typically, an editing program will edit very well, but offer limited authoring options. Likewise, an authoring program will author well, but offer limited editing options. It looks like you found this out.
I downloaded the demo of DVD Lab and fell in love with it almost instantly. I bought the Studio version.
Having to buy another piece of software was probably not what you wanted to hear, but it *does* give you the most options.
Good luck!

Different authoring programs have different options to other authoring programs. This particular option does not exist in the "Ulead" flagship DVD authoring program DVD Workshop 2, nor in its 'replacement' DVD Movie Factory.thad wrote:An authoring program will handle this kind of stuff easily. ....
The method I have outlined - using PGCEdit is in fact easy and it is FREE.
