MovieFactory 6+ Crashes when importing AVCHD content
MovieFactory 6+ Crashes when importing AVCHD content
Was wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem or knows how to fix this...
I recently bought a Canon HG10 camcorder, which records video using the new AVCHD format. It came with a copy of MovieFactory 5 SE, and I also already owned a copy of MF 6+ with the HD bonus pack. In both versions, if I try to import AVCHD video, either using the DVD import, or trying to directly add either the M2TS or MTS files into a project movie factory crashes. The event viewer tells me there is a fault in h264vdechpdll.dll. I've tried uninstalling 5 SE and reinstalling just 6+, I've also tried this on a second machine (5 SE only on that machine) and experienced the same problem. I finally tried installing 5 SE on a third computer and it worked. Corel/Ulead support hasn't been able to help so far, but I'd really like to get it working on my first PC.
First PC: Athlon 3000+ 2.2 ghz, 768 megs RAM, Radeon 9600
Second PC (laptop): Athon 1.0 ghz, 320 megs RAM, Mobility M1 graphics card
Third PC (laptop): Pentium M 1.7 Ghz, 512 RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500

I would do this.
Un-Install all your ulead products under add/remove, then reboot.
Remove the C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems Directory (completely)
Remove the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems (completely)
Then install only MF6+ original release, then Patch# 2, reboot.
Then install the HD-Add-On Pack, reboot.
If this works then don't install MF5.6SE. That was written before MF6+ was updated to work correctly with avchd/h264 video.
Not sure how this will work out for you though because the MF5.6SE has features written to work with the HG10 camcorder.
If MF6+ does work then to know for sure install MF5.6SE, if you have a problem then perform the above un-install/re-install again.

I had already performed those steps (Ulead support asked me to do the same thing). I uninstalled all ulead/corel/intervideo products on my machne (I even performed the manual uninstall steps for MovieFactory). I then installed 6+, patch 1, patch 2 and then the HD pack. I didn't re-install 5.6SE. I still got the same behavior.etech6355 wrote:I would do this.

Also, on my second computer, I never had MovieFactory 6+ installed. I simply tried to install 5.6SE and I get the same behavior on that one as well.

Nope. Also, since I am seeing a fault in h264vdechpdll.dll (which is a Ulead dll I believe), wouldn't that indicate it is trying to use the correct codec? This probably is a stupid comment, but is it at all possible that it is due to me having an AMD processor? Both computers this doesn't work on have Athlons, where-as the one I got it installed on had an Intel. I see their are other people experiencing the exact same problem (and they also couldn't get it working on AMD processors): http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre ... p=12444263etech6355 wrote:Do you have "FFDSHOW" installed, just curious as this does affect other programs.
I also was unable to get GuideMenu installed like the post above...I have no idea if the problems are related or not.
The only thing I can suggest is perform a search of your harddisk for h264vdechpdll.dll.
See how many multiple copies you come up with. I've heard of conflicts with this file but they should have been removed when you un-installed everything.
The only last thing I can suggest is make sure you record in either 1440 or 1920 avchd. Not sure how well MF copes with 24p (if available on that cam).
I have all intel processors so can't comment on the AMD processors, only tech support would know that, but there are alot of AMD processors out there.

By the way, I get the same error if I try and open up video in the WinDVD SE that comes with the HG10 (faults in the same dll). Also, and I may be grasping at straws here, but I do have Visual Studio 6 installed on both machines. Is it at all possible that is causing some conflict with MFC libraries or something? MF works fine with everything else I've used it for, even other HD content (ATSC video recorded from my hauppauge 1600). It is only with AVCHD that it seems to have problems.
When I uninstalled everything, I performed a system search for h264vdechpdll.dll and confirmed it no longer existed anywhere on my pc. My camcorder does support 24p, but the video I recorded was not in that format..plus it opens up just fine on my Intel.etech6355 wrote:The only thing I can suggest is perform a search of your harddisk for h264vdechpdll.dll.

Not yet. I still have an open ticket with Corel/Ulead support. If they come back to me with a resolution, I'll post an update. In the meantime, I'm still open to suggestions for other things to try.volker2311 wrote:Hello - i tried the demo version and had the same experience.
i also exchanged the h264***.dll but that leads to DVD capability only -
i need AVCHD
Question: has this issue been resolved ?
If yes, I will buy
thanks

h264vdechpdll.dll
Initially I was having problems with importing from a any source be it a DVD or Canon HG10 files. The problem was with h264vdechpdll.dll. I found three of these files in three folders. The one in the MPEG folder was cauising a problem. I replaced it with the one from another folder. The helped in importing function to work from a DVD or another source. However importing from the MTS file which is the Canon HG-10 file format is still a problem.
