Hi all,
I have just bought and installed 11.5 plus on a machine more than capable of dealing with video editing. I use a JVC GR-D250EK, and capture files in the DV format.
I have been using Movie Maker for a while, and had no problems but now want to burn straight to dvd and make menus etc.
I have a few issues/gripes/areas of ignorance:
1) In movie maker, a DV tape captured to hard drive broke up into clips that had the time and date of capture as their title. This made editing much easier when selecting clips to add to the timeline. I have tried to do this with VS through the DV Quickscan option (a complete misnomer!) but only get the clip duration as a title. I have a dozen tapes to download and edit, and want a quick and easy way to sort them.
2) When captured by VS, and then previewed, the time and date stamp does not appear in the preview. Again, my camera is set to show this for a few seconds at the start of each clip, and so this is recorded but never shows. Why is this?
3) I have disabled getting every clip I capture into the library, which gets very big and unwieldy. There seems to be no simple way to clear the library of all that is already there.
I have plenty of experience with computing. It just seems that aspects of this program are completely counter-intuitive. I am happy to be shown to be an idiot in all of these things. Anyone had the same gripes/problems/disappointments?

Hi
Video Studio does not display the date of recording/timecode.
It does however name its captured clips with a date format (uvs070522-003.AVI)
This clip was captured on the 22nd of may 2007.
Create a new working folder for each capture.
Use the Library Manager to create separate library pages for your captured files.
Select the library page prior to hitting the capture button.
Clearing the library
Use library manager to create new library pages
Use library manager to delete/remove pages.
Select the first clip, use shift=click to select the last clip hit the delete button.
Hold shift and delete will prompt to delete from hard drive as well.

Yes it will, go to Preferences and at the bottom of the General tab place a check in the box next to Display DV timecode on Preview Window.2) When captured by VS, and then previewed, the time and date stamp does not appear in the preview. Thanks for the replies.
I have solved my own problems, but not within VS.
I am using DVDate to mark the start of each scene with a date stamp. Most of my clips are of my small children, so knowing when the clip was taken is important to us on the final DVD.
I capture the tape as a single file, then inlay the date using DVDate, then seperate into clips on the edit board. I5 means more time away from the pc while it processes the whole video again, but gets me where I'd like to be.
I will keep track myself of where each tape starts and ends date-wise on a good old piece of paper!!
I cannot see why there is no "Delete All" option for the library. This makes no sense.
Things are resolved, I think.

Couldn't you just put a nice looking title over the clip?I am using DVDate to mark the start of each scene with a date stamp. Most of my clips are of my small children, so knowing when the clip was taken is important to us on the final DVD.
There is, as Trevor stated. It is Shift+Delete.I cannot see why there is no "Delete All" option for the library. This makes no sense.
