xvidcore.dll

Post by Hunkulus »

Hi
I was trying to import a .avi video file in to VS 11 and got an error message saying "xvidcore.dll missing". I downloaded the file and put it in to the Windows/System and System32 directories. I also put it in the VS 11 directory. To no avail. I still get the same error message. I checked trough the forum and can not find anything on this error.
Can anyone help? Are there different xvidcore.dll files? Where does the file go?
Thanks for any advice,
Hunkulus

Have you ever actually installed the XVid codec on your computer? That .dll is obviously associated with it, but won't work, I suspect, because it either doesn't have other XVid codec file(s) to associate with, or else because it hasn't been installed and registered properly. The .avi file you are trying to use is obviously (highly) compressed using the XVid codec. Do a Google search for XVid and install it -- it's free, in any case... Otherwise, VS will not be able to "see" it properly.

Thanks Ken
I just installed the XVid codec and I still get the same error message. Re-booted several times and still "xvidcore.dll not found". Maybe VS 11 can not process the highly compressed .avi files. I converted them with AVS Video Converter to .mpg and now I can use them in VS 11.
Thanks again for your help,

It certainly can: not only XVid, but DivX, mpeg-4 and H.264 SD, but now also HD AVCHD/H.264 as well...

Ken, then I don't understand the error message I keep getting. Maybe the file has to be installed in a special place (folder in VS 11).

No, Video Studio can and does use a variety of codecs which can be scattered across your computer by other programs such as PowerDVD or even Windows itself.

All I can suggest is that you remove the first downloaded version of the file, uninstall XVid and then reinstall it. I am assuming you downloaded the full version from XviD.org/ which should have given you the very latest version. It could be that the first download of the specific file you made was of an older version which was not overwritten by the subsequent full XVid install you did. So it might be rectified by a full and clean reinstall of the whole XVid shebang...

Hello Ken
Well, you hit the nail right on the head. I did just as you suggested and all is well now. VS 11 is working fine with the .avi files. No more errors. Thanks again for your help and have a fine holiday.
