Horizontal bars when playing

Post by LoverOfJoy »

This question is for my sister's system (so the information on my specs are not matched with the problem). I don't know the details on her system but I know she has the downloaded version of VS11 and that her computer runs Vista home basic.

She has had a number of problems getting things working properly, culminating in her not being able to open any of her old files.

I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall everything. I tried my best to manually remove additional files as described in other threads here but I couldn't get vista to access certain protected files even after following the instructions provided for a fresh reinstall.

After the reinstall, the program opened without crashing and was able to open files fine. The problem came when playing them.

When I hit play, the display showed the movie with stripes or bars with half of them shifted halfway across the display. It's hard to describe but the end result is that the movie isn't really viewable. If I hit pause everything looks normal. If I play a video clip but not the whole project, everything looks normal. But the second I try to play a whole project, I see these shifted bars again.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Here is the order I installed the files:
VS11 insall hotfix
VS11plus
VS11 content pack
VS11 bonus pack (basically just the image burner)
VS11 update pack (patch)
VS11 plus power pack

Now when I try to uninstall it says there are programs that are running that need to be closed. It lists 3 blank spaces that I can highlight but which have no text and then the fourth entry lists the image burning pack. I never opened it and don't see how to close it in the task manager.

Is there anything you'd suggest I try to fix this?

My suspicion at the moment is the source files rather than the program.
You need to ascertain what those source files are, perhaps you could copy one of the files giving your sister a problem to your own computer.
Then open your copy of VideoStudio to see if the problem repeats itself.
