Where are you considering on buying versions 9 or 10? I'm not sure any retail stores offer them any longer. We probably only have 3 maybe 4 months left before they release the next version, VS12 or whatever they are going to call it.
If you are going to buy the earlier versions off of Ebay, be forewarned. That has become a marketplace for pirated software. They also may sell you an SE version, which is a free version bundled with hardware. Or you might get a full blown version that has already been registered, and/or comes without the serial number. I've purchased numerous items from Ebay, however refuse to buy software.
That said, VS9 has only 1 overlay track, is not, will not run on Vista. VS10plus has 6 overlay tracks, will run on Vista with a patch, you can import VOB (files on DVD) directly to timeline, capture analog video (running WinXP).
VS11+ has 6 overlay tracks, can cut clips on the overlay tracks, runs on Vista, suppose to be able to edit AVCHD, HD, does not allow analog capture (analog tape in Digital 8 camcorder), comes with a few more templates.
If you're running Vista I would forget about the earlier versions, not an option. They will cause you more headaches just trying to install and get them to run stable. If your running WinXP, then any of the the 3 would work.

Generally for new releases going straight to the source is about as cheap as you're going to get. They are world-wide so no need to worry about that..

They dropped the price $30 (from 129.99 to 99.99) (US) for the Full version. If you had an earlier version

you could get it even cheaper. Notice the SE versions. Those even qualify for the upgrade price $59 (US).* Ulead VideoStudio 6 Retail/Upgrade/SE/SE DVD /SE VCD/SE Basic
